Re: Friday Night Is Music Night on BBC4 TV

Well after a good night last week - what a treat seeing a flash of Stone The Crows, just a reminder it's Garham Parker & The Rumour and a timely re-showing of Oil City Confidential for tonight. Details above.

Re: Friday Night Is Music Night on BBC4 TV

Yes, seeing Stone the Crows last week had me reaching for my phone to text Duncan. Big Jim Salter was one of my faves. Ah takes you back. What a great group.

Don't forget tonight sees the second instalment of Totally British 70s Rock n Roll with 1975 - 1979. It doesn't compare with '70 - '74, but some of it's worth catching. There are two doses of Graham Parker in this show.

Well, the 2nd instalment was another good watch - apart from Kursaal Flyers - what on Earth was the compiler thinking there? I think the end result was that Nick Lowe ends up being more "connected" than Kevin Bacon, at least as far as 70's "pub rock" went.

Thing that got me though; watching all the bands; some big names, some that soon crashed and burned; that came through on the Old Grey Whistle Test clips, and you think of all the contemporary bands we discuss on this and other forums; it makes a compelling case to re-work and wheel out a TV show of that format and remit on BBC Whatever or ITVinfinity.

Re: Friday Night Is Music Night on BBC4 TV

Not stricktly BBC4, nor Friday night, but with Glastonbury coming up, and the BBC have promised “comprehensive” coverage. I’ve had a look through the schedules, and this is about the best of what they list that may be of interest to the forum:-

Fri 28th:-
BBC3 - 19:00 Jake Bugg
BBC4 - 21:00 Seasick Steve
BBC2 - 23:00 Arctic Monkeys

Sat 29th:-
BBC2 - 22:00 Rolling Stones

Sun 30th
BBC3 - 20:00 Vampire Weekend
BBC2 - 22:00 Mumford & Sons
BBC4 - 22:30 Bonny Womack.

Timings approximate and things will change especially in camera crews get lost, as is usual. Still, no accounting for what may be under the “Red button”. Suppose if you want better coverage, then go to Glasto.
