Topic: Frampton's Guitar Circus

I saw this show last night at The Beacon in NYC. To me Frampton has more than a little of the "I'm great and I know it" attitude.  Good guitarist but his attitude was somewhat off putting in comparison to Joe, Warren, Derek, Eric etc. etc. Robert Cray who opened was wonderful as usual.

I don't know if others on the board share the opinion.  I know unlike the others Peter hasn't been invited to Crossroads or the other guitar events and I wonder if his attitude is why.

Re: Frampton's Guitar Circus

Wow, Ive seen PF several times (yes, including the Comes Alive tour!) and never gotten that impression. He has always been very smily, self effacing and seemingly overjoyed to be there playing for the audience. Though I think the term for his fans has waned in popularity, he treated the audience as his "Family of Friends". I would think he would be even moreso in the company of other great players.

I really wanted to go to his SD show with Sonny Landreth who was great at the Doheny Blues Festival, but it doesn't fit the schedule.

Re: Frampton's Guitar Circus

I go back to those days as well.  I can't put my finger on it but I just caught an attitude. I don't know if he somehow realizes he's not selling out big arenas the way he used to or what.  He did the Family of Friends stuff. He just seemed very "look at me" when he was soloing.

Too bad btw - Sonny Landreth is great.  We saw him at JazzFest years ago and became fans.

Re: Frampton's Guitar Circus

I have to chime in that I saw Frampton a few years back and thought he seemed incredibly appreciative and self-deprecating to a fault.

That said, I'm kind of miffed at him myself right now. We had tickets to see him last Monday in Lancaster, PA and he cancelled it about a week before due to a family matter. Knowing that he's still out and about touring, it would have been nice if he had rescheduled instead of cancelling.
