Topic: Lou Gramm Autobiography

I am looking forward to reading this. Prior to his illness he was up there with the best and co-wrote some classics with Mick Jones. I remember reading in 1997 that he had pulled out of a Japanese tour due to illness and the never heard anything else. When I saw him at the Beacon Theatre in 1999 I could hardly believe he was the same person, both vocally and visually. Then I found out about his brain tumour.

I admire his strength for carrying on singing, albeit he only gigs at weekends.

Wow! Had no clue. Foreigner was great!

Re: Lou Gramm Autobiography

I am gonna make lots of posts to this thread as Lou is one of my all-time favorites with Foreigner.

So happy he is doing his biography.  Would love to hear more about his early days in New York
and just his life in general.

I saw him with Foreigner right after he had his surgery.  I will never forget it.
Near the end of his set, his face was so red.  I thought he might pass out.  I was very afraid for him.
It would have been alright with me if he had stopped, knowing all that he had gone through.

But he didn't hesitate for a second and completed the Show.  I'll never forget that and how he fought.
That is why the first song I am going to post is for Lou and his toughness.

Re: Lou Gramm Autobiography

I spoke to Lou (and Mick) backstage in Devore in summer 1999 and he was fine. Said he got tired easily after the gig but he was upbeat and we had a good conversation about Shadow King (I was at their only gig) and Paul Rodgers. Top guy and my favourite singer after Paul.

Foreigner, great band. Thanks Kenny

Oh you have so peaked my interest.  If you don't mind sharing, what was your conversation about Paul Rodgers?   If it is private, definitely understand.

Also I will post an interview later Kenny.  I learned a lot about Lou from this interview.

But here is one from his solo album that is my song of the day

Thanks for posting this Kenny.  Good to hear he is doing better and better.
Ooh I am going to keep an eye out for his book tour.  That would be great if he threw some songs in
it too.  Such an inspiration.

I do hope he gets back to writing some songs if he wishes.  Even if corporate radio isn't listening, us Lou Gramm and Foreigner fans will be listening.  Rock On Lou!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of my favorites as well. One of the truly distinctive vocalists of his generation. I actually remember where I was and what I was doing the first time I heard that voice coming over the radio. Made a bee-line for the closest record shop as soon as I got off work, too...  wink

I have read some excerpts from the book online, and look forward to getting to the whole thing very soon (for some reason, Amazon is not currently listing a Kindle price, which is really going to tick me off if that mean's there is not going to be a Kindle version right away)...

Re: Lou Gramm Autobiography

I am aiming to buy a copy of the book when I am in New York in 2 weeks time. Beats buying it online.

Re: Lou Gramm Autobiography

A very worthwhile read and now I know why he called his band Shadow King.

One thing I found strange was that he never mentions his younger brother by name. However, I seem to recall he got the sack from the Lou Gramm Band for something untoward.

Looking forward to hearing how he sounds at the Songwriters Hall of Fame next month.

My copy just arrived today; strangely it wasn't available for iPad which is how I read most books now. Just too convenient

See if you can spot the 2 factual mistakes early on in the book.

Okay, first off it is just wrong to put Jimmy Page right next to the Quaker Oats Guy. Lmao who thought of that one, I so spit my coffee out.  Can only imagine what they put Keith Richards next to?

Thanks again Kenny for posting the great interview.  He is one of my favorites to hear speak.  He has such an honest eloquence.  I am just happy that he made it out of the surgery, because that was life-threatening.  And then to have to endure all the steroids and other things on his road to recovery. I think he is doing very well to even speak as well as he still is.  And I am sure the icing on the cake for him is his wonderful family with his twins that surround him.

This is so cool that they are being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
If you look at this next link, I think this is the best induction speech they can get.

I thought this was a great list. But just look at all the comments and all the other songs that people choose as their favorites.  I agree with all those too.  Just too, too many.  Here is one of my favorite rockers from them.  Congrats to all the members of Foreigner as you guys are a kick-@$$ band :win
