Just heard Nutbush and it's an amazing cover! Sounds like Joe is using his Fuzzface in that song. Can anybody confirm that?

yes a original 69 fuzz face
cheers ron

Yeah, I saw that on Facebook. Apparently I wasn't the only one inquiring about it, lol! Sounds awesome!

Thanks for the link to "Rhymes" official vid.  It's queued up, so to speak, because I'm busy listening to BOJH version of "From the Valley".  It's getting so I could live each day to a JB (and friends) soundtrack, with video feed.  I need me some of those newfangled Google glasses.  wink

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

Official music video Strange Fruit...

P.S. I enjoyed the behind the scenes video from the limited edition CD. I hope the record company will make it available in the U.S. because I cannot watch it on my DVD player because of the whole PAL vs. NTSC thing, but I watched it on my laptop. I'd like a version I could purchase that's compatible with my DVD player however.

In any case, I thought it was interesting when Anton spoke about Strange Fruit, and how to him it is about oppression of any kind, and how relevant it is today in so many ways, not just about racial issues. Also, how affecting the song is for him and Blondie and Kevin since they are from South Africa.

There should be a computer program to change format. A friend of the family over the pond does it before he sends it but you should be able to find  it online

Thanks, yeah I know there are programs to change the formatting and then burn a new disk. I don't wanna do it. I want to be able to buy a disk that is formatted for the U.S.  wink

listened to the album today. inferior to their first album imo.

not that it's a bad album by any stretch, but it's not as good as the first I feel

Taken me a while to get around to posting on this subject, one reason being I don't actually like being somewhat negative about stuff Joe puts out.

But I've been here a while and most forum members know it is different strokes for different folks. I bought the album early and I've given it multiple plays.

Its good, killer band and well played. But for me it lacks the spontaneity of the first disc, no matter how much Shirley tried to recapture it. There are a couple of 'standout' Joe solo's in there and Beth's singing and interpretation are excellent.

So what's not to like? The songs. As a package of songs I just don't think this band, with this bunch of covers works .The band is great but the album  just makes me feel that motions were being gone through. I've seen the videos and that was probably not the case but that's just how this album gets me.

Hey, you can't like everything all the time. I can see these songs, actually the songs from both albums, being spectacular live. Having seen Beth do a couple on her tour, I know they are, so it must just be the way this album presents itself to me.

Doesn't means it's bad or that I think it is bad. It just doesn't grab me the way the first did.

I myself still prefer the 1st CD too. Maybe some of the songs will present themselves differently to me once I get the upcoming live Blu-Ray? The new one just doesn't grab me the same way the 1st one did. I still will buy everything else they release in the future though. smile

Re: Joe and Beth Hart

After spending some time with the new album I think it is on par with the first one. There are a few cuts on each I am not fond of the new one just happens to lead with one of them. I also like the overall sound and production which compares with the first. The two albums will give them a good number of songs to tour with. I like Alborg will have to wait for the DVD release to know what we are missing next week.

Re: Joe and Beth Hart

Good but not as strong as the first. I wonder about Strange Fruit being the last. Such a downer subject, though a great rendition.

Well, I like the new one.  But I am still deciding if I like better or less than first.  I think all these songs will be wonderful live

Re: Joe and Beth Hart

OK finally got a chance to listen start to finish in the car which to me is the test. The first song is so retro and true to the era sounds great but not a song I would gravitate to. Same with Sunday kind of Love but it is deep into the album. Again not my cup of tea but I'm sure there will be those that love those two songs. The rest of the album to me is as good if not in some ways song for song stronger than the first. Rhymes is my favorite of the uptempo songs. I Love you more is my favorite slower song.

My only suggestion would always be track order. I believe in the world of digital music track order for the flow of the album is not as necessary as in the days when you dropped the needle on an album. I would of put Rhymes up front so people sampling on Itunes or Amazon would hear that one first. The more I listen to this album the more I like it though. I think it is one of the best sounding albums Kevin has done. Sounds good in the car and on the home system.

Re: Joe and Beth Hart

I do hope someone will post the set list at Bergen tomorrow, so we know what to look forward to on Monday.

Re: Joe and Beth Hart

I wonder if they are going to change the setlists at all for the 2 Amsterdam shows? A little switching around would be really cool.

Re: Joe and Beth Hart

Joe posted on twitter that Robben Ford is opening for them at the Bergen show tonight. Theoretically Robben Ford is one of the subscribers to my youtube channel. Maybe it is really him, since I only have Joe and Beth videos posted. Find it kind of interesting.
