Topic: What's that red box in Vienna?

Just finished watching the Vienna Acoustic blu-ray - LOVE it. I think it's so amazing that Joe's willing to go out on a limb like this and do something really different, and really musical. Anyone else seen the Goat Rodeo sessions? Reminds me a lot of that, in a way. Highlights for me were Athens to Athens, Jockey full of Bourbon, and Sloe Gin  (Joe's somewhat experimental solo in that one brings tears to my eyes).

Anyway, the whole time I was watching, I kept wondering, what's that red box down by Joe's right foot? There seemed to be some sort of microphone or something on the back of it...

So congrats Joe on a great musical experience, and I also really appreciated the in-depth behind the scenes videos, I love that stuff, to get a glimpse into what the musicians are thinking and feeling about what they're doing. Brings an extra dimension to it.

Might've been one of those boxes that are used to produce a kick-drum type sound whilst tapping your foot to accompany yourself

You could be right... though from what I noticed, Joe tended to "stomp" with his left foot while seated. I also thought, maybe it's just a shelf with a setlist on it or something? Since they're not allowed anything electric like an iPad. Old school teleprompter. wink

FYI, finally got an answer to this burning question. tongue I got a chance to chat with Arlan in Baltimore last night, and I asked him this question. He said it was "just a random box." Yeah, so just a shelf for stuff next to Joe, no great mystery of arcane ancient acoustic gear. big_smile

Yeah, I saw stuff in it before the show started.  Sorry I missed this topic completely, Pauly, but it is good to see it actualy progress from curiosity to conclusion.  cool Arlan's cool

Thanks PaulyT, I can rest now.

Funny though, if the red box had no specific purpose, my opinion is that it should have been removed from the stage...it looked awfully ratty, especially in that elegant setting!  Or if Joe needed a shelf, couldn't they locate something a little more presentable?  No importance here, just a thought.

Different strokes!  I thought it looked quaint in person.  Plus it might've had some unseen MoJoe.
