Re: March Madness! The forum's Favorite Band/Artist Bracket!

Ladies and gentlemen! Boys and girls! Children of all ages! The time has come for the most epic showdown in Bona-Forum history! Purple Haze vs Stairway to Heaven. Stratocaster vs Les Paul. American vs British. Two of the best guitarists of all-time square off in the First Annual Bonamassa Tournament of Champions!

Led Zeppelin vs Jimi Hendrix

Both of these bands have practically blown thrown each of their matchups. Zep, a 1 seed out of the Magellan Bracket, has bested its opponents (R.E.M., Derek Trucks Band, AC/DC, Jeff Beck, and Pink Floyd) by a cumulative total of 89-18! Hendrix, a 2 seed out of the Babe Bracket, has been similarly dominant, beating his opponents (Eric Johnson, Neil Young, Allman Brothers, SRV, and The Rolling Stones) by a total of 82-24.

Let the voting begin! We'll go until 8:00AM CST on Tuesday April 30th. Thanks to everyone who have made this a very fun thing to do! I will say I will start this earlier next year so this will end around the end of the NCAA Tournament. And I will expand the number of bands you can nominate to 20 instead of 10 like this year. Happy voting!

Re: March Madness! The forum's Favorite Band/Artist Bracket!

Now to my pick. This was a really difficult decision. Both of these bands/artists are frequent listens on my iPod. Both of these bands/artists are hugely influential. These two are frequently talked about in pop culture, I mean look at how both of them has released stuff in recent months and they sell as if they've been around all of this time! But in the end, I gotta go with Hendrix by the hair on his chin.

JIMI HENDRIX....

(I like Led-Zep a lot but Jimi is still the Strat master of all time)

Re: March Madness! The forum's Favorite Band/Artist Bracket!

Led Zeppelin for me.

Re: March Madness! The forum's Favorite Band/Artist Bracket!

Great matchup, both worthy (as was Pink Floyd)... but I have to go with:

JIMI HENDRIX

Every studio album is unbelievable, Band of Gypsies is unreal - including one of the greatest electric guitar performances of all time in Machine Gun - and lots of great posthumous material.  Fantastic songwriting, ground breaking guitar player and sonic experimentation.  Just completely changed the game.  His music is as timeless and fresh today as when I first heard Purple Haze decades ago.  It's deep and accessible at the same time.  Electric Ladyland and Band of Gypsies are two of my 5 favorite albums of all time, and Electric Ladyland and Axis: Bold as Love are both in my top 10.

Re: March Madness! The forum's Favorite Band/Artist Bracket!

Jimi Hendrix

Re: March Madness! The forum's Favorite Band/Artist Bracket!

My winner is: The one and only Jimi Hendrix ( besides the guitar god Joe B. ... )

Re: March Madness! The forum's Favorite Band/Artist Bracket!

I appreciate all kinds of music... but off the top of my head...

1) Norah Jones
2) Frank Sinatra
3) Guns and Roses
4) Billy Joel
5) Neil Young
6) Eric Clapton
7) Queensryche
8) Chet Atkins
9) Warrant
10) Anne Murray
(*) Amy Grant
