Topic: Letter to Sweet Rowena made up of 67 Joe song titles

With a great challenge from Jane, I have lengthened the story to include 67 Joe song titles:

Dear Sweet Rowena,

On this black night, I know where I belong, down by the river to watch the great flood steal your heart away. All I ask is for you to reconsider baby. I know you said I was three times a fool, but I was sick in love and you upset me baby with those mumbling words. Now it's a burning hell without you and I'm takin' the hit for the pain and sorrow I've caused from my mistake. I guess I'll never get that one last kiss and it'll be just tea for one from now on.
One of these days I'll be feelin' good and thinking about happier times, but that's further on up the road. Now I'm just a dislocated boy on this wandering earth feeling blue and evil looking for somewhere trouble don't go and a bridge to better days. I know it's the hard way, but it's my current situation and until another kind of love comes around to find a place in my heart, I'll miss you, hate you.
They said it was a new day yesterday, but you know it's just an old day now. There's nothing I wouldn't do for you, but it's up to you now baby, you gotta change your mind. Unfortunately you're stubborn, sweet Rowena, so I guess I have to stop feelin' so torn down and just pack it up and move on.
There are so many roads I could travel and I know a new life is waiting for me. I know a place near Richmond and as the crow flies it's just around the bend. I'd love to take the slow train from the valley, but all I got is some jelly roll leftovers and dirt in my pocket. So I guess I'm destined for a life of walkin' blues. When the sun goes down, I'll go travelin' south towards junction 61 kickin' the stones in my passway with my Spanish boots.  Now, I know there aren't any palm trees, helicopters and gasoline along that stretch of lonesome road, just high water everywhere. And they say you better watch yourself because there are people along that route who are funkier than a mosquito's tweeter and are known to drink a jockey full of bourbon before noon. But I know I'll be okay so long as they don't burn down that bridge before I get to cross it.
So it's like that, sweet Rowena, always remember that I was wild about you baby and if I had to cry today it's only because I don't believe I'll be asking around for you anymore.

                                                                                              Love,

                                                                                              John Henry

someone else here did a similar thing years back but did not highlight the pertinent words and we had a little guessing game. will try to remember more about it to see if i could search it up. would have to think of something unique about it or who it was to have a chance at a search for it

After I did it, I thought, damn, I should have made it into a game to see if people could guess all the songs, but it was a pain bolding all the song titles so I didn't feel like undoing it and so left it the way it is. It would be cool to see the one from a while ago.

Re: Letter to Sweet Rowena made up of 67 Joe song titles

Thanks, Jane. Phil certainly wrote quite a story. Loved it. All the song titles kept popping out at me.  Almost makes me feel like doing a longer version of my own.

Wonder how long it took Phil to write this?  Thanks for finding it.  Natasha you have your work cut out for you now.

Great job! I thought it was SPAZTASTIC!

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Thanks Jane for giving me the challenge! I didn't bold John Henry or Lonesome Road because they weren't the entire song names, but in my mind they still count.  So actually 66 titles maybe? (I like to think Cassidy gets his writing abilities from me smile )

but hey you forgot to bold LEFTOVER(s)

Where is Leftovers from? I was using the official cds with their song titles. If I did it from the live recordings, there'd be a lot more songs to choose from and I would have spent even more time on it when I probably should have been doing something else smile

Re: Letter to Sweet Rowena made up of 67 Joe song titles

Thanks Jane, geez it was right in front if my face and I didn't see it. I love seeing all the comments using titles as well. It's fun to see what people come up with.

A reverse Dear John Henry Letter! Yeah, that (and the other's elsewhere, Phil and a few others' as well, Michael at least, maybe you ? Jane or a Wing Zing?) is pretty darn fun and impressive.  (edit "drink a" wink)  Good fun entertainment! big_smile

Re: Letter to Sweet Rowena made up of 67 Joe song titles

Thanks for finding it again Jane! It was a lot of fun coming up with it. When Joe puts out his new album, I might have to try and come up with another one to incorporate more titles. Would love to see others give a go at it as well.
