Wrong, but 10 out of 10 for making me laugh out loud smile

The correct answer is The Buggles. Hans Zimmer was a member of the Buggles at the time of Video Killed the Radio Star. The other two members, Trevor Horn & Geoff Downes later joined Yes

Frank Zappa is one of the few rock guys I'd feel comfortable putting in the "composer" category, and I love Frank's music, although some folks like Steve Vai have written for orchestras and their style is more compositional... I know it's a blurry line, I wouldn't begrudge others their choices, and I'm sure there are lots of others out there.

In rock I dont think anyone else even comes close. I think of FZ as a classical composer who happened to compose in the rock genre.  By extension his influence Edgar Varese should be mentioned as well.

A bit misleading, since Zimmer didnt write VKTRS!

Re: Favourite Composers?

for those with any interest in this genre of music - Ludovico Einaudi is a composer and artist worth looking up, - his recent release  "In a Time Lapse" is superb.

I haven't got any composers for you....yet, but I just was reading through this thread and NickSlikk made me laugh out loud too and that is a most admirable thing to do at any time!

Thank You!

Re: Favourite Composers?

Interesting resurrection of a thread I missed the first time around.  A good read.  I'll add a jazz pianist and composer to the mix.  John A Lewis, a founder of "The Modern Jazz Quartet".  He was known for taking classical forms and applying them to jazz based on improvisation (in Jazz...no surprise, of course) and with carefully worked-out changes of tempo, key, meter and instrumentation.

Notable work..."Bluesology", and his rendition of "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea".

See link to this and other MP3 versions, for those who are interested.

EDIT:  To add a wiki link, for more info.  He was very talented.  But don't take my word on it.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.
