Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

I haven't had alot to hoot & holler about in a while with my Villanova Wildcats, but what a week in Philly college basketball. Tuesday, 'Nova knocked off Louisville and yesterday the Wildcats took down Syracuse. Yesterday's game was the best game I've attended in a couple of years. Historically you have to go back to 2001 to find an unranked team knock off 2 top 5 ranked teams in a week.

Some interesting things:
-Syracuse lost twice this season, both to Philly teams.
-This is the buzz, much disagreement and I'm no expert, but Syracuse should have fouled us right when Arch got the ball, before the end of regulation time.
http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketb … -villanova
-Ryan Archidiacino is my favorite player and he is only a freshman. Both of his parents attended 'Nova, his dad was a football player when my husband was there.
-Also locally this week, LaSalle beat Butler & VCU

Rocket, you may appreciate this. wink There was a very good showing of Syracuse fans at the arena, some around my seats. The guys behind me were friendly and kept saying, just wait, we are a second half team, I can't wait until the 2nd half. At the end, a 'Nova fan in front of me yelled back...Enjoy the ACC...and a bunch of other stuff about playing in NC country. You had to be there! I was on a natural high all night! smile Exciting game.

Way to go Nova!  Two of the nation's best teams.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

It looks like if you get ranked #1, you get smoked and yer done (Duke).....kiddin of course, but it seems as though there is a new team nearly every week.....by the way who is the top team as of today?

Michigan until they play at Indiana this weekend.  Hoosiers will be ranked 3rd after a hard fought win over Michigan St. yesterday.  There are a number of quality teams this year, but Michigan is the best team I've seen this year and Trey Burke is my pick for the top player.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Kentucky posted a nice road win at Ole Miss last night.  All the freshmen played well and Nerlens Noel had twelve shot blocks.  There's no doubt he'll be the top draft pick this summer and the Cats are starting to get their sea legs.  This is good news for our Kentucky members.

Maybe one of the games of the year saturday between Michigan and IU.  Should be a humdinger.  I just hope my Hoosiers don't overlook Purdue tonight.

Pulling for Indiana on Saturday.  I still beleive they are best overall.  A loss to the Boilermakers would be a blip to the perceptions of rankings, whereas a big win on Saturday will upset the appeal cartel!

Rocket,

Thanks for the vote of confidence.  IU up 20 at halftime, but the whistle's a blowin' at Mackey and two quick fouls on Zeller.

IU played their best game last night handing Purdue one of their worst home losses on record.

Being number one again puts the bullseye back on us.  It's nice, but the rankings don't mean much till March.  Big Ten is brutal this year.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Aztecs dumped another last night up in the clouds at AFA. Two shots to tie in the waning seconds and clanked. Mountain West is getting pretty hard and this team lacks a good shooter. Three pointers are their bane. Have fun at the top Curby.

Two tough road games this week.  If they win both it'll be amazing, but I think Florida will wind up at the top come tournament time.

Spoke too soon.  Arkansas put a beating on the Gators tonight and made Florida look a bit overrated.  I'm sure Deezer's happy as a clam and the Razorbacks look like a legitimate tournament team.  Another slugfest in the Big Ten between O$U and Michigan.  Buckeyes are a dangerous team and seem to be improving.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Damn straight I'm happy! That was Hawg Ball the way Nolan did it in the 90s! Now, we need to take that and do it on the road, or the NIT is the best we can hope for. At the start of the year, it was all BJ Young and Marshawn Powell. But now guys like Michael Qualls and Hunter Mickelson are starting to grow up and really contribute. And that defense the last 3 games has been stifling. I'm really impressed with what Mike Anderson's been doing, but I'll be even more happy if we can go on the road and beat Vanderbilt on Saturday (hard place to get a win).

All that yellow subliminally affects opposing teams.  Not joking.

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Kansas went down to TCU! Wow.  Bigger surprise was Indiana State crushing Creighton.  Some team out of the Missouri valley Conference will go deep in the tournament in my opinion.  St. John's the sleeper in the Big East.

That TCU loss will cost Kansas a #1 seed.  Coach Self bout went postal about his team's play after the game.
