Topic: Aussie Blues

I was just posting in the "What Are You Listening To?" thread and I thought I'd shout out loud from down here for some of Australia's Blues players. I can highly recommend grabbing a cold beer and spending a bit of time getting to know them!

....Not so much guitar but the always incredible Chris Wilson - be careful, he will blow your hair back! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsAtYy4tkVo

There are plenty more, just getting started!

Re: Aussie Blues

I really like this young lady from Canberra, Ashleigh Mannix. She's not really a Blues artist, she's an acoustic guitarist/singer with a variety of styles.

Re: Aussie Blues

There not so many Aussie-Acts I know.
Jimmy Barnes - i like his voice.
Does Gwyn Ashton count? He´s born in Wales, but lives in Australia since a long time.

Re: Aussie Blues

Some of the Aussie acts have a rough edge - and I like it.

Let some other names roll - I like these influences.

Thanks so much for these shouts.  I will give them a good listen.  I have some of Geoff Achison's stuff and forgot how good he is - thanks for the reminder.  Here's a fine cover of "Whippin' Post".  The studio version off Chasing My Tail is even more awesome.

Re: Aussie Blues

Take it then, Hoochie Coochie Men - Bob Daisley, Tim Gaze, Rob Grosser are on hold.

Their 2nd studio album - Danger- White Men Dancing featured Jon Lord, Ian Gillan, Jimmy Barnes & Jeff Duff; that was back '07/08.
