Re: The NFL - National Football League

I'll take these as well, except I like the Redskins in a slight upset at home. It's tough going west coast to east coast or vice versa, and I'm thinking Seahawks come in a bit flat.

Saturday

Cincinnati Bengals 27 vs. Houston Texans 34

Minnesota Vikings 27 vs. Green Bay Packers 24 -sure, Packers can blow them out possibly.  I doubt either going much further than 2 wins, regardless of winner.

Screw the outcome, just throw the ball to Andre Johnson & Greg Jennings a lot. Preferably in the end zone!!!

Hey, 1 outta 4 ain't bad if you're not usein' real money. RW3 looked a whole lot better than 3Bob especially after Shanahan decided to risk life or "limb". Hope Griffin still has a career.

Betting could prove lucrative guys!

No matter what side one was on, sad way to end the season for the Redskins. If I was the coach, I would have put Cousins in sooner, RGIII was not effective after the 1st quarter.

lol No kidding! JDawg, I HATE wild card games.  I blame the NHL for them ever coming into existence.  Wish it would go back to division winners ONLY for NFL at least.

Angela, EVERYBODY would've put Cousins in waaaaaayyyyy earlier.  I put that squarely on head coach.  Hopefully not a career destroying day for Mr. Giffin III.  Cheap shots on him really ticked me off.  An awful lot of dirty players / plays / playing this weekend.  Shameful.

I also HATE byes.  Regular season or playoffs.

Re: The NFL - National Football League

Widlcard weekend picks were pretty easy.  Wont be as easy this weekend.  Of the hot rookie qb's in this years playoffs, it's the short, thrid round pick that's going on to the divisional round.

Watched some of that game and he looks like he's played in the League more than one year.  RGIII knocked out playing for the moment and not considering the risks.  Will be his achilles heel.

The playing surface at FedEX Field was terrible, and likely contributed to RG3's injury. Not sure what Snyder is thinking to let the playing surface deteriorate to that level. Hindsight is 20/20 as they say, but one would think Snyder would want to protect the investment he has in his franchise QB, who must play half his games at FedEx...

The run RG III made early in the game, when his knee buckled as he went down out of bounds, grimaced and removed his helmet...yeah, that was when they should have pulled him, IMO. Why risk a young, talented QB with his entire career in front of him, for one game...even if it's in the playoffs?

Re: The NFL - National Football League

Unfortunately in the NFL it's win @ all cost or you're GONE!!! This situation with RGIII reminds me of the old football flick North Dallas Forty where their running backs knee is messed up and the coach intimidates him into taking a shot of pain killer and plays him only to have the knee go out and ends his career. "What's it gonna be Delma?" Hope 3Bob bounces back, cuz this ain't Hollywood we're talkin' about here.

Even if he makes more money than you and is nearly one-fourth of a single handed reason for the playoff berth...

Re: The NFL - National Football League

Those days are gone...it's win at almost all cost, unless it involves permanent damage to the future of your franchise. Sports franchises no longer shoot a star player up with painkillers and send him back on the field...too large of an investment tied up to lose a player, especially a franchise player, to long term injury.
I don't know what the doctors knew about his knee, but they chose to let him play. Keeping him in the game after the play I referred to seemed wrong to me, but I'm not a doctor.
I guess all that can be debated once there is a final diagnosis from the specialist.

Yes risk it, or yes DON'T risk?  I was not supporting risking.  The talk about he was going to get injured came true.  Maybe Griffin figured the "glory" was worth the "gory"?! Guess he never heard of Never Make Your Move Too Soon...the question of ego is irrelevant or totally relevant?

The commentators were saying the doctor had NOT given approval to come back yet, supposedly... Cousins had a win under his belt.  As a coach, I easily could risk a very poor performance by a backup (and the wrath of "what was he thinking? Fire his butt!") over a VERY poor performance from a VERY hobbled starter who might put your franchise back on the losing track for next year (or???) by their loss to injury for even a few games recovering.  I have to say I was surprised by Shanahan.  Can't recall that ever happening prior regarding myself.  The knee is not designed to play steroid fueled (let alone ANY) football.

Truly incredulous at the whole scenario.
