Re: The Pain and Sorrow appreciation thread

got to thinking about this song again. its so cool that its being worked out in sound checks/rehersal etc. even if it never makes the set, just knowing Joe is giving it some appreciation again.
I was thinkign the other day about the PBS plegde drives and stuff. Its so cool to hear the hosts gush about Joe and how truly enjoyable his performances are but i couldn't help but wonder what they would be like talking about Joe and requesting pledges after they just aired part of a hypothetical dvd including it. they'd be like OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! did you just catch that!!!!!!!!!!????? Holy smokes, hey we got to hit replay on that one. heck they'd probably start off with that song before they played the rest to get the maximum wow factor in the pledges. i mean they already are so genuinely describing how great the performances but they could then without any doubt say to the viewers you will not get quality broadcasting like this anywhere else OMFG how does he doooooo that?

Re: The Pain and Sorrow appreciation thread

Thanks Michael!!!!!!!!
With the news of the varied set list and band arrangement for the 2013 London gigs, I'm thinking Paind Sorrow might get played at the small gig and I'm picturing a Joe, Carmine, Tal trio although of course I amhoping its going to have a steady place in the set for a while and they are working it with Rick so I dunno. sooo curious!

Re: The Pain and Sorrow appreciation thread

We're still kicking around this thread, Jane? wink Seriously, I too wish Joe would revisit this song, plus this one...

Joe is the Best!

Re: The Pain and Sorrow appreciation thread

hmm i guess i never saw Roy's reply before. i would not call it 'kicking around' but it wouldn't be the first time we viewed something in a really different way, lol.

ANYWAY the news today is Pain and Sorrow was heard during sound check.

woohooooooo

here we go.

Re: The Pain and Sorrow appreciation thread

Pain and Sorrow was the song that got me hooked on Joe.. I like the Hendrixy/SRV vibe it has, but thank god it's the only one. Besides that song i cannot understand why people kept comparing Joe and SRV, they where, and still are very different from each other.. Even more so today

“Clapton came up to me and asked ‘How the hell do you do that?’ talking about my vibrato. “And I said, ‘You must be joking!’”

BINGO!! It's a sore point with Joe too. I love SRV, but Joe doesn't play that style at all, IMHO. smile Pain and Sorrow being played tonight !! Can't wait for a vid smile

Re: The Pain and Sorrow appreciation thread

Rick was kind enough to upload and post this before sleep. SO worth the wait smile White Strat!

I actually wish he would have went more in the direction of Pain and Sorrow.
I remember of how blown away I was and how that song stands out amongst all his songs.

I am not glad that was the only one of it's kind that he will ever do.  I saw so much in that in what he could have gone to.

Re: The Pain and Sorrow appreciation thread

Love the 2013 version ......  yeah tho unlike the 2003/4 extended versions, i think this compact version is modern and cool, yeah maybe if Joe sneaks it into the set cool again it may morph some atmospheric solo in

i was cut up   LOL wink

As a newer fan of Joe,  this updated version is great.   I have watched the older youtube vidoes and the song but really dig the guitar on this version.  Just me, please do not shoot me for saying this.

Re: The Pain and Sorrow appreciation thread

hey everyone has their own likes, its all good. i only saw the youtubes a couple times so far so i will have to listen more intently to see my preferences new vs old etc
it was great to see Joe play it again.
I don't expect him to keep it in the set though. it did seem as if it was more or less a treat for the fans who shout out for it than something he did for his own wants sort of thing?
I dunno time will tell  but i am not going to hold my breath waiting for it in Baltimore.
i do really look forward to it on the upcoming dvds hopefully.
