Topic: I'm starting to get worried...

I'm patiently waiting for Joe to come through Omaha this year, but I'm not seeing a date yet.  I just might have to make a trip to Clear Lake again !

Re: I'm starting to get worried...

Hi Brett, I brought a friend to Reno in May to see Joe, my buddy is from Omaha and flys in every 2 weeks for business in Sac town. He was floored at Joes show. I told him that Joe played in Omaha a year or 2 ago, he didnt believe me. He said and I quote " we dont have squat for clubs in Omaha", is that true? Any ways he'll be out here to see another in Sept.

Re: I'm starting to get worried...

Hey Brett, are you gonna see the Allman Brothers and then later ZZ TOP?
I'm working in Nebraska City, got tix for both. ZZ tix center stage, row 7!
Saw Buddy Guy and EJ at Harrah's a couple of months ago, nice place for a concert. Joe oughtta play there.

Joe played on the riverfront last year and yes, Harrah's is a great venue too.  I know there are some nice clubs in Omaha, though I haven't been to any shows yet.

I'd love to see the Allman Bros show and ZZ is playing right in my back yard, but I've heard the ZZ shows are pretty bad from a couple of friends who have seen them lately.

I've got a great backyard and deck.  Also an Italian girlfriend that can cook up a storm.  Joe and the band should just stop by my place on their way to Wichita and do a little acoustic jam and enjoy a couple of brews !!!

Re: I'm starting to get worried...

There are several venues here in Omaha capable of a Joe show. The FIRST pick for me would be the Holland Performing Arts Center. Joe would spaz-out on the acoustics there. Stir at Harrah's Casino, Whiskey Roadhouse at Horeshoe Casino, The Orpheum Theater, or even the Scottish Rite Hall. The problem IS that Joe can't sell a show here due to the musical mentality of the people here. If it's not 12-bar-blues-dance-around-in-your-cowboy-suit-with-the-Marlboro-hangin-out-yer-mouth-with-an-empty-Bud-lonngnecker-hangin-off-yer-finger, then it doesn't sell here. I usually have to go to Kansas City or OHIO if I want a Joe-fix.
SURE, Joe played the riverfront last year, but that festival was privately funded & FREE to the public, so lotsa people were there & our guy JAMMED. A year prior to that event Joe was here at the Scottish Rite Hall. I don't remember the ticket price, but it wasn't anything to cause anyone bankruptcy. Attendance that night was PITIFIL & I was ashamed of my town. Joe was kind enough to invite me aboard the bus aftershow, & we discussed it. He told me a few of the reasons why, but I'm sure it was in confidence so I'll not discuss it here. Omaha considers itself a 'music mecca' , like Seattle or Austin, but that's for specific genres of music only. If Joe were an Indie artist, he'd have a key to the city.

Joe once said   " I like to play in places where they 'get it'  "  .

G, we have back-to-back Joe shows comin' up in less than 2 weeks here in Ohio; Fri., August 31 in Kettering @ Fraze Pavilion and the very next night at the St. Mary's Blues fest... see you there??

Now that's hilarious !  Yeah, Omaha does seem like it wants to be this hip, trendy city with one foot squarely planted in the 1950's !

Re: I'm starting to get worried...

DON'T tempt me like that Melissa. It wouldn't take much to get me there. A plate of pasta with the FAMOUS sauce might just do it.

That could be easily arranged, G, and I would even throw in some pizzelles.  C'mon... you know you want to! :-)

Hi Brett, I called my buddy Brian in Omaha today. He said he would join the forum and chime in....." hey bubba T , where you at, you jus
talkin the talk, or gonna walk the walk, were waiting for you "

P. S....   Hey "T", nice crank phone call yesterday, I know my Bonamassa, that was " a new day yesterday ", try again!!

Re: I'm starting to get worried...

I, too, am deeply saddened that Joe won't be playing my town this year.  I keep checking the tour page, hoping against hope that an Omaha date will pop up in between Davenport and Boulder, but that hope fades daily.  He'll be back in the vicinity in November, but there appears to be no room in the schedule.

<sigh>

I don't get it.  Joe does have a big supporter here in Rick Galusha, who features him prominently on Pacific Street Blues, a local radio show.  And Joe's gotten decent press on his previous concerts.  He's even done at least one Blues in the Schools appearance here.

On the other hand, we have my favorite local station, Z-92.  They know who Joe is; they've had him as a guest in the studio once or twice.  But will they play his music?  Hell, no.  Understand, this isn't a Clear Channel station; they ballyhoo the fact that they're locally owned and operated.  I've listened to Z-92 all my life.  Believe me when I tell you I know their format.  And Joe fits it, as easily as SRV or KWS.  So how is it that I can't hear one of my favorite artists on my favorite station?

And <G> is right; attendance at that Scottish Rite Hall show was pathetic.  Sure, it was weekday, but even so . . .

I just don't get it.

Please don't write us off, Joe.  Omahans can be a stubborn lot, and often mistrustful of outsiders, but once you get "in," you're there for life.

In the meantime, I am faced with having to travel to either Clear Lake or KC, or going through all of 2007 without seeing Joe live.

Re: I'm starting to get worried...

Can you describe that taste to me please?

Hey Matt:

"I, too, am deeply saddened that Joe won't be playing my town this year."

This has been our cry here in Oregon also.
The last time was the BB King tour when we only got to hear (3) songs.
We are blessed with a couple of shows next month in Grants Pass and Portland. It is cool that Joe is coming back to Southern Oregon, where I moved to in July. It will be tempting to take in the Portland show 2 nights later, but is it on a Sunday night. Great to know he will be playing the Aladdin Theater this time. Much better venue that the Roseland Theater where he has played B4. Am rounding up my homies to introduce them to Joe and the Boys LIVE!

Take Care Matt
