Topic: Thursday Random Ten

Ok, guys and gals, let's play a game. This is something fun I'm stealing from some of the blogs I frequent. The rules are you take your ipod or mp3 player and hit random/shuffle. Post the first ten songs. Then everyone gets to comment on the overall awesomeness or suckitude of your taste in music. So here goes...

1. Peace Frog - Doors
2. What Mama Said - Jeff Beck
3. Black Dog - Led Zepplin
4. E'ireann - Afro Celt Sound System
5. I Would Die 4 U - Prince
6. Voices of Other Times - Brian Auger
7. Had To Cry Today - Joe the Man
8. 19-2000 - Gorillaz
9. Aqualung - Jethro Tull
10. Dolly Dagger - Jimi Hendrix (my theme song big_smile)

So have at it. Post your list or comment on mine. If you guys like it, I'll do this every week. If you don't...oh, well. smile

I'm just saying.

Thanks. David Gogo is a Blues Rock artist from Canada. Gary Moore of course is one of the greatest Blues Rock guitarists ever from Ireland. That particular song, End of the World, is a no holds barred hard rock song though. I rank it right up there with Voodoo Child and Pain and Sorrow. Six String Whiplash is from a phenomenal guitarist from upstate NY.  One of the few that is close to Joe's level.  At 12 years old he could play like someone with 20 years experience. His style has changed now though. The next 2 songs are from bands in the heavy Blues Rock mold. Actually, Six String Whiplash and Temple Trippin' can be found at  http://www.grooveyardrecords.com/

I have heard of the Gorillaz on your list. Makes you wanna dance. smile Will have to check out Afro Celt and Brian Auger.

Re: Thursday Random Ten

Danny,

Brian Auger is an keyboard player I listened to a lot in the 70's. Very rock/jazz. Still love his stuff.

Definitely check out Afro Celt. I've been a big fan for years and have all their CDs. I really get into world music mixes and AC does it right. A blend of Irish instruments/melodies with African lyrics and drums.

I love finding music that blends music from other cultures with rock, jazz and the blues. I've been excited to hear Joe incorporating Indian tones into his music lately. Can't wait to hear what he does on Sloe Gin. big_smile

I'm just saying.

I checked them both out. Liked them both. Love the Hammond B3 (Brian Auger) and am into World Beat music as well (Afro Celt). Actually, the only type of music I don't care for is Opera. How many people do you know that can listen to Fur Elise by Beethoven one minute and then Satan Spawn by Deicide the next? smile

Re: Thursday Random Ten

Six String Whiplash is a song and Randy McStine is the artist, he transposed that one...don't flip on me bear...maybe you'll find a group by that name, if so report back! Anyway you can go to his website & hear the song clip, (look for the Shredding Skin" CD clip...Check out Jeff Beck's "Freeway Jam"), which he recorded at 13 years old or so...I've had the CD 6 so maybe it was 11 or 12, can't remember... Further I see the last 3 artists are transposed, so look carefully... don't flip on me Danny

Sorry about that. You're not the only one that's dyslexic, Rocket.
I heard that McStine did that song when he was only 12 years old. It is possible for someone to play the guitar that great at that age? I would've had to have seen it for myself.
