Re: guilty pleasure tuneage

OMG i just cranked Poor Poor Pitiful me by Ms. Ronstadt the other day--i played it 3x in a row--i used to love her version of that song!  And speaking of Mr. Zevon i did love Werewolves of London and Excitable Boy too. How can you not love a song about a psychopath with a beach boys type vibe?
Prince ditto--bopped many a time to Raspberry Beret.
And the Gotye tune--nmagcorn i'll be standing in the corner with you---i like that one too.
Ok--this should get me banned for life--yesterday i was humming Rhinestone Cowboy by Glenn Campbell.  Anyone care to top that one?

Okay I admit, I've been holding off because it is somewhat embarrassing, but I have been known to dance around in the livingroom to Prince and the Revolution. Yes, I admit it, and to be further "exposed before my peers", as Roger Waters would say, I do actually enjoy the Gotye song:"somebody that I used to know". I will understand if I am now ostracized from the group. smile

Who HASN'T danced around their livingroom to Prince? Good stuff! smile

Re: guilty pleasure tuneage

I decided to post here with a little trepidation as I've been scorched for this admission before: Lady Gaga when she does her unplugged versions of her songs. I can't stand the over produced noise and images that are a mainstay of current pop culture, but I love to hear just her and a piano.
There I've said it! Now where's that damn fire extinquisher?

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Re: guilty pleasure tuneage

lol roll cool

It's pretty bad when you are humming along to what most would consider elevator music, or the muzak in a store.  I hate it when the song becomes stuck, too.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

Re: guilty pleasure tuneage

I listen to a lot of Chillout music for winding down, whether at home late in the dark or out cycling or travelling wherever.
I find it the best music for cleansing and soothing the mind away with sweeping synths and epic arrangements from my first love Blues & Rock .....

so i picked several of my fave chilled tunes and put em together with some stunning images and made some video's
some came out really well ...... so if your out in the garden on a sunset evening or out driving or travelling (especially flying) or just at home kicking back and relaxing ... have a listen put on a decent sound system or headphones

....... and Chillout

I got to see them at the Pensacola Beach pier in the late 90's (albeit free admission), with my young kids in tow. They really put on a show!

As corn through a goose, so are the days of our lives

Re: guilty pleasure tuneage

It's not really a guilty pleasure but one song will always remind me of a time and place.

It was Heart's "Crazy on You". The first time I heard it was on Radio Free Europe while I was on a "cruise" sitting off the coast of Beirut Lebanon in '76.

Re: guilty pleasure tuneage

He's baaaaack. I really like this, sounds a little Chuck Berryish, very straight forward. The picking he does also reminds me of Brent Mason out of Nashville, but not near as fast. Horns and piano add a lot to it. What do you think? If the rest sounds like this, if there is a "rest" then I'm buying it.

Re: guilty pleasure tuneage

Saw the comment about K C and the Sunshine band.  That is so funny.  I was not really a fan of them but two years ago we were vacationing in Las Vegas staying at The Orleans off strip.  KC and the band where playing in the showroom the whole week we were there. Twice people came up to us at the pool and offered us free tickets to the show.  We turned them down cause he was not our fav.  Then the next to last night we are playing some slots and this little old lady comes up and hands us two tickets.   She was so sweet we could not turn her down. So we went to the show  just for lack of anything else to do.

By the time the intro was over and KC started we were dancing in the aisles and singing along.  It was the best free concert I ever went to.  His bass player was the coolest.  Really a showman after all these years.  Great time.

Re: guilty pleasure tuneage

Since we are confessing, I have listened to Rick Springfield's new music over the last 4-5 years and pretty much loved it ... especially Shock-Denial-Anger or something to that effect, and Venus in Overdrive.  Great songs on both.  Even went to a few live performances which were over the top showmanship.  He can really play that guitar and works the crowd, coming all out through the audience.  Must admit my favorite is when he ventures into the blues ala Red House.

No tomatoes please. tongue

I don't admit this often but I think this is a great song.

Re: guilty pleasure tuneage

I agree Helrazr. And looking in the YouTube margin reminded me of another Simply Red song that I enjoyed, If You Don't Know Me By Now.

Haha Barbie, right on that! I think the band itself is just one giant guilty pleasure of mine.

The hair and sunglasses are throwing me off a bit, but the song is definitely a fun little number. I think the horns are a smidge too loud, drowns out the guitar a little. But that's the only complaint. Always fun to watch Prince.
