Topic: Here's one from left field!

I subscribe to the NY Times since I'm a crossword addict (ink pen, no reference cheating) and also like the features other than news.
Today in the Arts section there was a fascinating article on a quest to preserve the music of India's Manganiyars, a desert caste of hereditary musicians in Rajasthan. The preservation search was inspired by our own Alan Lomax who did the fantastic job of searching out and recording the Blues. A good read with three songs on playable embeds. Haunting music that I find intriguing with touches of tempi and structure you may find familiar. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/23/arts/ … odayspaper

Re: Here's one from left field!

Don't know if I would be "competition", but I agree that the only way to do a crossword puzzle is with an ink pen and your brain.  I've never been one for doing them daily.  But not unusual to tacke 3 on a lazy Sunday, and one of them from the Times.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

Re: Here's one from left field!

Rick would be no competition for me. I do the Sunday Times crossword puzzle with no pencil OR pen, and only use the Across clues. I also do "Hard" Sudoku in one glance, like the Dweezil Zappa lookalike on "Numbers" would. wink

I bow to the northwest in admiration oh mighty one. What is your foamy beverage of choice when not performing other feats? wink

McSorleys Porter or 1/2 Guiness 1/2 McSorleys Ale  (both the real thing from the Ale House, not the bottled swill). Just about the only thing from NY I miss.

Though I did have a very foamy, impetuous yet playful "Left Hand Brewery Milk Stout Nitro" in Denver last week. wink

shake much yesterday?

Nah, just a jolt and jiggle. I was cleaning my aquarium and it started sloshing pretty good for a bit. A few little shaker after shocks but no big deal as those go. They should continue for a week or so.  It was explained that Brawley gets those swarms every 10 years on average. A fracture zone between two faults is where they sit which is actually pretty good for the area since they rarely get big ones.
