Topic: Crossroads

What a day!!! I was in the back seating area so the stage looked like tiny people moving about but they had huge screens and excellant sound. The stage rotated so there was very little down time. It was a Strat fest for sure. Huge Fender sponsorship! Only 2 Gibsons, B.B. King and Derek Trucks. It was interesting to watch the crowd as everyone was there for their "favorite". I will say it was odd to see alot of people leaving when Steve Winwood and Clapton were playing together. Don't think they realized how historic it was! I had a couple from the Netherlands and he said that moment gave him goosebumps. I had forgotten what a great guitar player SW is! Every performance really was spot on. I was thrilled to see Johnny Winter not only play well but walk on and off the stage unaided!! Lots of folks got turned on to acts they didn't know like Robert Randolph. There was a small stage in the guitar village where Tab Benoit had a great jam. Also saw Albert Lee there prior to going on the big stage. Another highlit was the young lady playing bass with Jeff Beck, one of my favorites because she was having such a great time. Rumor was she was Beck's daughter but I see that's been clarified. I got to meet forum friends David and his wife, Bill S and his beautiful daughter Carly, Lee and his girlfriend, and Rob and friends. I wish you all could have been there!             Cathy

Re: Crossroads

Ditto, Ditto, Ditto to what Cathy said...  Some of the highlights for me was Derek Trucks, he was on fire.  BB sitting down and talking about his friends.  Robert Randolph very moving...  Eric playing for almost two hours with Stevie joining him.  To hear Dear Mr. Fantasy was great.   All in all one of the best musical days in a long time, very special day.  Great sound, there was some glitches but what else would you expect.  Bill Murray was an appropriate emcee.

We ended up with seats, call limited view but they were right by the stage and could see great!

Really would have been awesome if Joe was there, but it was great to see Cathy, Lee and Rob too...

Hey David, were you in section 133? I was scanning the seats early in the day and I thought for sure I saw you and your wife sitting together even though you mentioned before you had separate seats. I'll have a full report to come.

Re: Crossroads

Hey Cathy.  Absolutely loved your review.  Sounds like Crossroads was a rockin' great time.  I am sure it was an extremely memorable experience and I am positive not many festivals can or will ever match or top that one.  This past May in Pittsburgh I got to see the Derek Trucks Band for the first time.  WOW, he and his band totally blew me away.  They are so tight as a band and just rocked n' grooved all night long.  Every member of his band is an extremely talented musician but I especially liked Todd Smallie on bass and well, Derek what can you say but..........he is an unbelievably awesome and talented guitarist!  I am a huge Derek Trucks Band fan now.  Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful experience at Crossroads with us!!

Re: Crossroads

I hope the DVD comes out soon for this Crossroads festival. Since I've gotten older music has become more important to me. I have seen a lot of the people that played the festival at different times over the years but I wish I could have seen them all together. One day I am going to win the lottery and then I can travel around the world just to see great musicians play all the time.

Hi Lee, Yes we were in 133.  I ended up getting some seats together on Friday through Ticketmaster.  It was worth sitting together and they were really good seats too.  I was looking for you guys in GA but there was a kazillion people in there!!!

Re: Crossroads

So, I had a great time.  The city seemed differant this time for sure.  There was a lot, A LOT of off site stuff.  Schubas had a serious party one night.

There was a brunch jam at some place I had never been before.

Seeing the Maxwell Street final presentation, since my Dad lived there as a boy and I have sort of been a volunteer...that was heartwarming.

Standing outside the original Checkerboard.

I thought nothing compared to Robert Randolph.  Nothing.

I found it funny that Buddy looked to be getting off the stage as fast as possible so he can get home.

Met Jim Dero, and the guy from the Sun Times, both cool dudes.

So, did anyone else do any celebrity spotting in the crowd?  I thought I saw a few more than expected.

Derek Trucks and Susan were in the General Admission off to the side from time to time watching the other performers.
