Re: New Robben Ford Album

Too late here on the Best Coast to load more, dig into Volk's youtube collection, but he's better in person, no matter who he's jammin' with.

jdawg,

I was 100% wrong. It was Mars Volta!!  Really sorry about that, I apologize and will edit my comment. Thanks for pointing that out, again I'm sorry.  Its not my nature to criticize easily to begin with.

I was hopin' it was a mix up, Volker is a phenomenal talent on his own and when he plays with Robben, which is how I discovered him. I treated myself to a Robben Ford show @ The Big Room @ Sierra Nevada Brewing for my Bday in '06. Robben was fabulous as usual, but his sideman on guitar went toe to toe with him and Robben turned Volker loose on 2 or 3 tunes. I went up to Volker after the show and introduced myself and chatted and he told me about his own band and as they say the rest is history.

Checked Volker's gig list. He sure has an aversion to down south this way. sad Seems there must be a big crack just above Santa Barbara.

It's not an aversion so much as being tied to his day job with the Sonoma County Housing Authority. Kinda limits his gigability.

Re: New Robben Ford Album

Rick, Robben is playing a $20 show in Corona in late September that I'll be at. Albert Lee may be sitting in, and they're looking to have a film crew there for some pay per view company (I believe). The Albert Lee thing may have changed though since the original date was Sept 1, which has now been moved to the 28th.

Randy Scott, the winner of the 2010 King of the Blues competition, will be opening the show. Through some random connections I happen to know the pianist in Randy's band, I'm going to try to have him hook me up with some face time with Robben to get an old LP of his from the 70's signed! It was recorded with his brothers Marc and Patrick, pretty cool!

You're killing me. I checked and could have got front row center table. No can do a Friday night by 7 from here when we're not home from work until 530 at the earliest. sad  Thanks for the heads up, that sounds like an awesome gig. Have fun meeting Robben.
