Topic: Bonamassa Italian Roots
I am originally from Frankfort, New York which is about about 15 miles from New Hartford, New York where Joe is from. I know Joe's father is from Utica, New York. I worked in the Utica State Office Building where Joe's mother worked. My mother's maiden name is Bonamasso, which was originally Bonamassa in the town of Oriolo, region of Calabria, province of Cosenza, Italy. My grandfather, Domenico Bonamasso, lived in New York City after he immigrated to America. The spelling of his surname on his Italian birth certificate is "Bonamassa." I have learned that my grandfather visited a Bonamasso or Bonamassa cousin in Utica when he travelled to Frankfort in the 1950's. I wonder if Joe's surname can be traced to the town of Oriolo?
