Topic: BOC/Steppenwolf

Had a ton of fun at the 40 years of rock by radio KGB street party. HoldemExpert and lady met me and we high rolled it all afternoon and into the eve. Veteran bands gave great performances and flashed us back to days of yore with some very cool rock and roll.
I shot some vids, pardon the shaky work, but a few gins and good music led to some bopping about. This should give an idea of the fun. Raw and unedited Don't Fear the Reaper, BOC. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeFIcayOH1k
I'll toss some more up as they get processed.

Re: BOC/Steppenwolf

Soft White Underbelly ROCKS! I shared your vid with my buddy Gary from upstate NY, BOC was his first concert in high school and still his favorite band. I worked & rocked out with Chris Cain and Lydia Pense & Cold Blood yesterday @ the Pleasant Hill Blues & Brews Fest. Chris put me in his will for keeping him hydrated with cold Coronas during his set, it was a balmy 97 degrees most of the day. Saw BOC last Sept. w/Skynyrd, talk about a rockin' evening!!!

Cool JDawg! BOC ruled back in the day and still can bring it. Buck Dharma the living legend still has what brought us in the beginning  and they rocked the hell out of Little Italy. I've been perusing the product of last night and captured some fun stuff. Should have brought 3 batteries. Only got half the Steppenwolf set, but that's ok 'cause BOC still ruled. Here's a Steppenwolf offering, poignantly relevant years after it was first sung. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bg8PkzmUjXU Hold On.

Re: BOC/Steppenwolf

A really fun day and night...though we lost you at the end, Rick!  Good to see you made it home to post wink

BOC brought it this time, after the disaster last year that Ive mentioned. Richie Castellano was really on, and Buck was back. BOC seems to go through bass players like ...nahhh wont use that sticky analogy, lol.....first time Ive seen Kasim Sulton, but he has quite a resume and I thought he was great.

Eric's voice has been pretty well shot for years, so I wasnt looking for any more than he gave.

"Then Came the Last Days of May" is a beautiful song and a great showcase for the guitars, and was well done last night. Best Ive heard, at least since the passing of Alan Lanier.

I dont know whether it was just the killer BOC set, the setlist or refereeing the near fight between RickB and a JB hater between sets, but I didnt get into Steppenwolf. John Kay's voice was as good as ever, and the rest of the group was tight and professional, but it didnt really move me. I will blame it on me and not them!

See you at the Grove, RB.

Ohhh and props to the Anthology. The VIP reserved seating was taken very seriously, the area in front of the stage kept clear until Magic Carpet Ride and Born to Be Wild, it never got to crowded inside and the buffet was decent. I might try the vendors outside a bit more next year, but walking around wasnt an option yesterday.

Nice job on Last Days of May.  My audio came it pretty well. I may download your vids and edit in my audio and see how it comes out.

Mike Moran put up a good vid of Chopper the Biker Dog playing aloof with Kasim Sulton and Eric Bloom.

Soft White Underbelly was used both as a small date name but also the pre-Eric Bloom lineup with singer Les Braunstein.

thanks for posting these Rick, will finally get to listen later today. I was a big Step fan back in the day, bought the live 2 record set as soon as it hit the shelves and wore it out, parents not thrilled. But I never got into BOC too much, don't know why.
What I really wanted to see was the vid of Rick goin Navy Seal on his arse. lol

Shades of a Joe Louis Walker gig in Winters, Ca. I went to with Shreddy 'bout 4 or 5 years ago. Shred was workin' the crowd before the show started passin' out Joe info when some guy tells him, that guy overplays too much....GO TIME! Shred explained the guitar gospel according to Joe B right up till JLW hit the stage. Took a few beers and some smokin' blues to calm the boy down.
