Re: Jonny Lowther (New York Song on 10th Page)

That is exactly what I was thinking. Two days a week for a few years. Well done Jonny.

Re: Jonny Lowther (New York Song on 10th Page)

You are too hard on yourself, and for two days you certainly can't complain about the end result. I keep going back to a slide but lose interest quickly. You did a great job to be proud of and I only wish I could master it as well as you. Keep up the good work. Did you raise the action much or leave it alone?

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

Re: Jonny Lowther (New York Song on 10th Page)

Jonny, if next you pull out Burning Hell "Live at the Rockpalast" version, particularly the extended ending, and then claim to be only playing slide for a week, I'm done talking to you! -S

Fortunately I have a guitar I usually keep for slide with the action very high, but I've found when using a glass slide or a lighter weight metal slide, you can get away with leaving the string height a little low if you prefer your strings low. It may not sound good unplugged, but when you're using an amp it will sound better. So practice plugged in!

Re: Jonny Lowther (New York Song on 10th Page)

Late to the party.  I still have a tendency to lurk.  Had to say I've enjoyed your playing, Jonny.  I've seen many a bluesman, living where I do.  Really enjoyed your take on "The Thrill is Gone"...and I've seen BB play that more than once.

EDIT:  And I also think you must be pulling our legs...after watching the "One of These Days" solo.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

Re: Jonny Lowther (New York Song on 10th Page)

Thanks for the comments big_smile

Yo Seth, I don't really sing so it'd be kinda hard to do...I could do just the guitar parts...might be a bit boring without the singing though! tongue

And JBFAN...I'm just happy that you enjoy watching my videos..thanks! smile

Yes I raised the action a tiny bit so I didn't hit the fretboard with the slide (as much! tongue )

Re: Jonny Lowther (New York Song on 10th Page)

Please don't hate me...I'm tempted to redo it AGAIN for the third time lol ... I can barely hear what I'm playing on the video and I know what I'm supposed to be looking out for so it must be even harder for everyone else!

Re: Jonny Lowther (New York Song on 10th Page)

If you say 2 days then I'll take you at your word, but you are way ahead of the learning curve. It sounds excellent to me and didn't have it turned up all that loud. Lowell George used a Sears Craftsman 5/16" or 7/16 ratchett socket adaptor thingy, pretty heavy piece of metal. I remember trying to figure out some of When the Levee Breaks at a young age, with limited success.

Burning Hell is a great one. Pretty easy to play too. First Joe song/cover I heard ever was Just Got Paid, then I downloaded Burning Hell and was floored at how good that song was.

Also, Walking Blues is very cool. My second fav slide song he does. Open G tuning. Easy tuning to get the hang of. Open D is tough for me so Johnny Winter Mojo Boogie I never finished!

Give Statesboro Blues a go...Duane was amazing.
