Shreddy the wimp

Re: Dose of Joe at the Crest

That was clinical, I don't know how he does it, but it goes up a notch every time I see him play. Karen got her full Bonabaptism and I got Bonipulated at Dr. Joes geetar clinic. Loved the new stuff and was a treat to hang with Mr. & Mrs. Shredit, Lisa & Scott, Rpic & his posse(Randu, thanks for da schwag), Joe & Aaron pre-show, and Rick & Carm post gig. The best part is we're gonna do it all over again tomorrow night in the Citay. Time to wimp out like Shreddy and recharge my batteries for round 2.

Re: Dose of Joe at the Crest

I live in sac but good seats were not available. Gonna go see him in SF tonight. Does Joe mingle afterwords? I want him to sign my black rock...

Re: Dose of Joe at the Crest

Was at the Sacto show last nite. We had great seats (2nd row center). What an awesome time we had. It has been a long time since I've been to a concert (Pink Floyd '94) so I forgot how LOUD they can be! My wife suggested that next time we should get seats farther back for better acoustics. I have to agree. Otherwise it was awesome.
I do feel the need to apologise to Joe though for the few audience members who don't know the appropriate times to open their mouths and when to keep them shut. There were a few who felt they had to be heard with their inane whooping and whistling during the quieter moments of "Woke Up Dreaming". Get a clue people! I can now see where Sacramento gets it's nickname of "Cowtown".
Other than that, it was the fastest 2 hours + I've ever experienced. Just fantastic!

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Re: Dose of Joe at the Crest

Sacramento DESTROYED last night!!!!!!!!.....that about sums it up, the band put on the best show I have EVER seen, I'm not overstating this either....from the first song TBOJH to the the last Just got paid......I should have bought tix for tonight, my bad.....Talked to Carmine and Rick in The lobby after the show, gracious like always.....Carmine, Deb and I will be praying for you my PR brother, your a damn good man, hang in there buddy  neutral  ....and JB thanks for the kind words, it was a pleasure pimping you around the State Capital

Shreddy....still in shock over that monster performance.....get ready San Francisco, your about to get obliterated!!

P.S.....it was great to talk to my buddy Jdawg, your looking really great Dawggy

Re: Dose of Joe at the Crest

I had a feeling, when the song playing before the band hit the stage last night, was "Iron Maidens - Two Minutes To Midnight" that we were in for something just a little different than previous JB shows. My feeling was correct.

JB & Co. were on fire last night.

Rick was in great form and when they needed to be the keys were front and center as far as sound goes. Great additional background vocals also. .........price of admission $65

Bogie & Carmine were layin' such a killer groove if you weren't tappin' your toes or boppin' your head you were either paralyzed or dead. Bogie was the best I've ever seen him in person........price of admission $65

Joe. What can be said that hasn't already. Absolutely LOVED all the guitars  ............PRICELESS!!!!

J Dawg- Nice meeting Karen and thanks for the Jim D hat. See you all tonight!

                                                                                    Randy

Re: Dose of Joe at the Crest

UNBELIEVABLE!
Joe and the band were fantastic! I think Joe was a little frustrated by some knuckle heads who didn't seem to ubderstand shutting up during a couple of quiet guitar moments.
Our seat's were great, front row center on the balcony just behind the sound board.
As I watchd Joe playing, I witnessed what we have seen on his dvd's, Joe totally into every note and the emotion of what he was playing.
Count me in anytime & everytime he gets colse to our area again.
And Joe,  can you imagine a repeat Joe appearance at the Boardwalk,
there would be a few more than the 18 you had before!
I will be ordering Black Rock, to go along with his other albums, the JB pick tin, and the JB coffee mug.
cool

Re: Dose of Joe at the Crest

Joe was great and so was the band...I was in the fourth row on the left. I would like to thank Joe for coming to Sacramento and look forward to him coming again. Joe did not miss a beat or note for that matter. Joe had a pedal mishap and they had it fixed in no time. (Thanks to the great tech) The new song Blue & Evil was amazing live. As for the idiots that were hooping and yelling out I want Joe to know that not all Sacramento people are that stupid...I picked up the new CD Black Rock and it is amazing. The album has a great live feeling to it. New album and Tin full of picks...what else can you ask for...

Thanks again Joe...

Heres the write up from The Saramento Blues Society......very nice!!  smile

Rob Sawyer
Joe Bonamassa - Crest Theater, Sacramento on March 11, 2010.

So here are 10 things you need to know before you go hear Joe.

First, as he's often said in interviews, his mom raised him to respect his fans, his concert promoters and his crew by being punctual. This night at the Crest the house lights went down, and from the darkness to stage right Joe began unleashing pure thunder from a baritone/ standard double-neck, at precisely 8:00 o'clock. A lot of folks who were still milling around in the lobby missed one of the great show entrances on the circuit today.

Second, even though he's from upstate New York (he says he's from L.A., but that's just his professional base for a grinding schedule of over 200 dates a year; he grew up in, and still calls "home," the Utica area), Joe sure knows how to coax the Delta and Southern swamps out of his guitars. Everything from dirt to sublime, with a million watts of energy in every note.

Third, be prepared to see a virtual parade of great axes. Lucky for Joe, his dad Len is the owner of venerable Bank Street Guitars in Hamilton, New York. (It was Len who introduced his young son to the guitar gods that are still Joe's idols, English bluesmen like Eric Clapton, John Mayall and Rory Gallagher.) Hope Joe gets a discount, because just for this night's show I counted (from the Gibson roster) five different Les Pauls, a Firebird, a Korina Explorer, a 355 and a Flying V, plus (from the Ernie Ball team) two Music Mans (Music Men?) and the double-neck that opened the show. And that doesn't even count the Alvarez acoustic that Joe shredded solo for about 15 minutes toward the end of the show, bringing the crowd to a frenzy.

Fourth, Joe and his crew are prepared, prepared, prepared. While he's definitely a tone geek (four amp heads into two custom cabinets, specially miked behind a Plexiglas screen to avoid cross-talk with the other instruments on the stage, plus a rack of pedals larger than the stock at most Guitar Centers), once the show starts there's no pedal-stomping, dial twirling or switch-throwing. He's put the hard work into the set-up before the show, so what you hear is coming exclusively from his hands, and his heart. (And by the way, that little metal stick thingie-dingie that was on the stand to stage right is called a "theremin." Invented in Russia in the 1920s, the antenna senses the proximity of the player's hand to control pitch and volume. Joe's is made by Moog, and when he runs his guitar signal through it and waves his hand near the antenna, pure magic comes out.)

Fifth, Joe attracts super musicians to tour with him. Aussie Rick Melik was on the Hammond B-3, run through one of those Holy Grail Leslie rotating speaker cabinets. Brooklynite Carmine Rojas (who's worked from everyone from Rod Stewart to Carly Simon) was on bass. And South Carolina native Bogie Bowles (who now lives in L.A. and teaches at the L.A. Music Academy) rocked on the drums.

Sixth, while he may be only 32 years old, Joe's music is fully matured. (Joe started picking at guitars in his dad's shop as an infant, and before his teens was gigging with well-known musicians. One story has it that then 12-year-old Joe was lectured by his homeroom teacher for fabricating his "what I did last summer" essay, in which he described a performance with B.B. King. But when Joe produced his backstage pass and photos of the concert, his teacher quickly changed Joe's grade from "F" to "A-Plus.") Don't let the boyish good looks fool you.

Seventh, be prepared for a great set list. Among my favorites of Joe's hits on this night: "Sloe Gin" and "So Many Roads."

Eighth, be prepared to get your money's worth. Two hours and five minutes of uninterrupted music. And it went by in a flash.

Ninth, know that Joe walks the walk. He's one of the most generous musicians out there, and a huge supporter of the Blues Foundation's "Blues in the Schools" program. Working with the Sacramento Blues Society, earlier in the afternoon he put on a great clinic for over 350 Sacramento-area school students. If there's one thing that's important to Joe, it's "giving back" to the musicians that supported him on his way up by sharing the music with the next generation.

And finally, No. 10: Get your ticket early. This night's show at the 975-seat Crest was sold
