Where to start. First good job fans that place was NUTS!!! Welcome to Maine Joe. I ended up with front row tickets by pure luck when Merrill Auditorium released them ten days before the show. Se here I was at my first Joe Show sitting dead center stage for the night. I had planned to give a big review of the show set list, sound and all that. There is no one word or one hundred words that can explain the show. EPIC!! I have never seen a band play with that much passion and energy for so long. Well over two and a half hours.
A few favorites of mine were Sloe Gin and Dislocated Boy. DTTD sounded great and will be a staple on the set list for the next ten years. A few highlights of the show. Joe giving his guitar to a kid in the front row during Woke up Dreaming. Joe drinking his glass of wine on stage in his red Maine shirt. The real pain in the neck story during our greeting. The crowd going crazy during Just Got Paid.
After the show we decided to try and meet Joe at the bus. This was a family affair as my wife and kids also went to the show. I didn't wait long before Joe was upon me. Forgetting what I had rehearsed I had Joe sign my copy of DTTD as I stumbled for words. I then remembered that I had actually brought the family. Joe could not have been nicer as he greeted us. When it came family picture time with Joe something happened to our camera and it didn't go off. Feeling we already took to much time I was ready to leave when Joe asked "did you get your picture?" Joe stayed with us as my daughter fixed the camera and we did indeed get our picture.
Thank you Joe for the kindness and patience you showed my family. You have a great gift that you share with the world but your greatest gift is your humbleness and kindness you show to others. Thank you very much. Ron G-aka fett2112.

Sounds like you had a good time. I was not able to make it but my friend Jay and his nephew made out big time. I am so happy for both of them

Re: Portland show

Portland show was off the hook - aside from a broken string and a broken string peg (which had an awesome outcome).  Joe may have been "injured" from the previous nights show but you would never know by watching and listening to him.  I would love to know how much that doubleneck weighs - it can't be very light.

Very nice venue, and great sound for me (4th row left aisle), and an audience that seemed to appreciate what they were hearing.

Show number thirty for me in the books, 31 coming up tonite in Hampton Beach.

Re: Portland show

Time for me to chime in....it was a great show!...everyone else has put in the details so I'll share a little personal side....first the "meet and greet" was neat....got Joe to sign my guitar case (Epi JB) but I didn't want him to sign the guitar....he seemed a little surprise but I said if he signed it, I'd have to put it on the wall....Joe responded, "then play the hell out of it"...."I do" was my response....he also was nice enough to sign a t-shirt and the "Driving" CD which has been in my player for over a week now.

Wish I could have had the time to tell the following to Joe in person but I can understand his time constraints...so here is my story...

A few years ago a guitar playing friend from Indy (Chuck...who has all of his signature guitars) introduced me to Joe's playing.  My first concert was a while back at the Hampton Beach Ballroom Casino in NH...I'm sitting there getting completely overwhelmed and blown away by his playing....he was in the middle of "Just Got Paid" and into the Zep takeoff when it hit me..deja vue....over forty years ago I had sat in almost the same place, in same ballroom and heard Zep do it live...no band since Zep has had that type of emotional effect on me...until JB....I can feel his notes....all of his bends and vibrato....it just cuts to my soul...so thanks to Joe for being the inspiration for an old man like me to keep on playing guitar again...

Unfortunately I can't make the Hampton Beach show tonight....so I'll have to put on his CD, pick up my guitar and "play the hell out of it"....

...later.

Re: Portland show

Thanks for checking in Cowboy. I know what you mean, this was our first show and we are just coming off the "Joe High" today. Glad I'm on vacation. Hope to get more of you who went to thr show to check in. On a side note I just posted Dislocated Boy on you tube. I did lose the last minute of the song but the quality is good. I also have found Who's Been Talking, Woke Up Dreaming and Joe's greeting(the pain in the neck story) on you tube. On WUD you can see Joe hand the guitar to the kid in the front row! Keep them coming everyone I know there is more out there from the show.

Re: Portland show

I guess this pretty much wraps up the posts for the show. A few final thoughts. It was great meeting a bunch of new people as well as just saying hi to all. It certainly was a party atmosphere. Sitting in front I can tell you Joe was blown away when we welcomed him to Portland. Joe coming out and thanking the crowd and saying how humble it was to play for us was a very genuine moment. Again thanks Joe, you said you will come back and you know we will be out again in force to see you!
Is it to early to post the Portland Maine 2013 Topic? Thanks all see you at the next show. Bought tickets to Springfield Ma in November. Send a pm if you want to road trip with us.

Re: Portland show

Thank you very much for all the great reviews and the wonderful film footage! So far the summer has been windy, wet and a bit miserable here in the south coast of England. These reviews warm the soul ... as does the news about Joe giving his guitar to a young lad at the front! Thanks for the reviews, and thanks Joe for being the star that you are!!

Re: Portland show

Thanks for the late arrival of the vids. Nice to relive the tour again.
