Topic: Please Joe stop with the blues COVER!!!

I edit the title from "Please Joe stop with the blues" to "Please Joe stop with the blues COVER!!!"

Joe,

The song "Driving toward  the daylight" is a beatiful song, I know you can do an album with all your own songs, where your feeling and soul can completely go out!

Your soul is blues and you don't need to do blues cover for show it!!

I think, now, blues songs COVER are a prison for your soul, taste and capacity,

Please let you free from them!!!

Re: Please Joe stop with the blues COVER!!!

I find it highly unlikely for an artist to ever 'stop' with their genre..
What I think you don't understand pexfra, is that Joe's roots lie deep in the blues.. They're what makes Joe, Joe!
Just in any respect, that jazz is what makes Miles Davis, Miles Davis.. Like, blues is what makes BB King, BB King..
DTTD is indeed, a fantastic song, but that doesn't mean every song of Joe's should be like that.. Variation is what makes an artist.. Blues is even the basis of the song! There's a blues influence in the track, and by listening to the lyrics, it's clearly a modern blues song...
We all love Joe's music for what it is.. We wouldn't change it for anything, and we all have good faith in the fact that Joe knows what he's doing...

DON'T stop with the Blues!

Re: Please Joe stop with the blues COVER!!!

This is a pure provocation! wink

What I want to say is:

Joe is a very high talent artist , I love is music and I prefer his original song (also blues song...) because there is a lot of Bonamassa artist over blues cover songs!

This is the purpose of my post, I'd like to listen a new full Joe's original album, he play cover in the best way but they are always cover!

Thanks for you answers!

Francesco

Provocation is as provocation was.  Interpretation is a huge part of The Blues' legacy, ditto, as is reinterpretation.

No!  Nein!  Nyet!  Non!  Nunca! Ni por pienso!  Gasp * my heart *  Blues is the life blood of American music.  NOW:

If you are saying "Please play more originals and less covers." that is a complimentary opinion.  OK then.  No hay problema.

But:

If you say Joe's foundation (which is Blues, as the genre) is wrong...ainsi, cela signifie la guerre.  lol  tongue  Too many rockers for an old grump.

On a recent BBC interview - Joe said "I'm no Dylan" meaning, he writes, but he's not prolific.

Nothing to do with me Rocket, I saw the post this morning which had been put up while I was sleeping. I’ve never been shy to give my own opinions in my own name
I don’t agree that Joe should give up with the blues. I love his own original blues songs and although I feel he does do too many blues covers, they are all without good songs, well worth investigating in their own right I should add. If it helps people to check out the original artists then I’m happy with that too. I’d just like to hear an album of all original material. To be honest while new fans are not going to complain about the music, some of us who have followed Joe through his career do think some of the blues covers are a little unadventurous and he could allow the time to make the album of self penned material we know he can make. It may just be the one factor that could help give Joe the universal critical acclaim that he deserves.
Francesco makes a valid conversation starter and with comments like the following, many others feel something similar:

I loved the intro to "Who's Been Talking" but the track leaves me a little cold.  A little too much "been there done that."
after a few runs through there aren't the real standout tracks I expect.  Of course, you can't expect every album to be an A++ (even from JB).

I would happily wait a couple of years for the next album if it meant all the songs were original compositions...as much as I really dig this album.

mightyduck wrote:

My thoughts exactly. Some of the covers do sound pretty familiar in style with some on Dust Bowl. (mind you I only got the album yesterday, but that is my initial reaction). Being able to produce a solid all original album would be the next step to global domination !!!

murfdog wrote:

This album is simply his most straightforward blues effort since Blues Deluxe....more traditional and less mainstream than his last 3 efforts.....This disc is not as varied in musical styles as many…
Does this album sound a bit derivative of prior work?....perhaps, but consider, he has released like 13 albums in 12 years or something like that....I mean all artists end up having tunes that sound similar....Doesn't mean it's not good...

I maybe wrong, but I think there's a higher ratio of someone else's hand in the writing and arrangement of this album.

Re: Please Joe stop with the blues COVER!!!

Joe' originals showcase his songwriting skills.I do not write music so I don't know how time consuming or hard it is to come up with good songs.I would bet it aint easy.So I think(just my opinion not fact) that Joe's model of releasing a new cd every year is a great thing for the fans and as a business move.Probably more efficient covering some songs rather than having to write them.Plus as stated here, blues artists frequently rework blues songs.I think blues songs in general can be done or arranged for a different interpretation almost made into a completely different song.Joe does this extremely well.I have heard other artists do as well.
There have been similiar posts here as to rather waiting for all original songs cd.This is a testament to Joes writing abilityI say take a step back.I personally enjoy the covers Joe does. They are mostly songs that aren't overplayed by other blues players..Also,he does such an oustanding job wih them.
The other issue is playing stanard blues versus a more modern blues rock hybred like DTTD.I prefer the rockier songs, but enjoy the blues too.So its the best of both worlds. In summary don't change a thing Joe!

Don't know what people's problems are with this new album ... sounds very fresh to me! Especially songs like Heavenly Soul and Too much aint enough love

Best album i've heard in years!

Re: Please Joe stop with the blues COVER!!!

Nah, Joe has a formula. Pen a few, cover more, slap it together with some buddies in studio and they sell like hotcakes. Toss out a rocker every now and then to keep that faction's noise down to a low rumble and all is good. Gimme da Bluze! Any way shape or form and diz boy be one happy camper.
