Topic: Performance enhancing drug use

This is a continuation of the conversations that began under Ticket prices....You see, I'm a BIG Tour de France fan. I've been rooting for Alexandre Vinokourov because he has had such tenacity despite an awful fall in the first week. I watched him win a mountain stage today. Now I hear on the news that he tested + for a blood transfusion (increased red blood cells=increased oxygen available )..Seems the police got him this afternoon....I feel like Rocket...BAH!!!!!!!!!

Re: Performance enhancing drug use

i use mushrooms or lsd that seems to work very well for me ....joe

Re: Performance enhancing drug use

One thing about drug use in sports, is that I can understand why they do it. If you feel like everyone is getting ahead of you, while you're absolutely busting your rear end to get somewhere and you're just treading water, a "deal with the devil" doesn't seem so absurd. However, let me state that DOES NOT CONDONE IT. It is wrong, and you should be punished severely if you do it. If Bonds took drugs, all his home runs after he started taking them should be wiped from the record books. It's cheating, plain and simple. However, all I'm saying is that I understand the thought processes behind athletes that take them. As far as cycling goes, that is cycling's fault. They have turned a blind eye to a problem they knew they have, and now their sport is probably 95% full of cheaters.

Re: Performance enhancing drug use

Lots of crazy stuff going on in the sports world.  The NBA ref...yikes! Lying, Cheating, Hurting...transforms love...sports...it's everywhere, no morals, win at all cost...I didn't watch it this year, it's a bummer when you feel let down by someone you admired, bad role model for kids also.

Re: Performance enhancing drug use

Deezer..Cycling has led the way in combating PED's. Lance Armstrong was the MOST tested athlete on the planet. It killed the French that they couldn't find anything...The fact that These events today prove they test daily during the race. They do not test in many other sports.  It's STUPID to think you won't get caught...I don't know an answer because you're right about the motivation......Cathy

I totally agree with your comments about one of the greatest athletes in the world, Lance.  They tried so hard to bust him but he was always clean.  There was a hidden agenda to try and get to Lance but never worked!  Still love to watch the Tour...

A touch of humor off my own topic but a true story...I never watched golf until Tiger Woods came along and I don't play. I do know that golfer's tend to have nicknames..so..I'm flipping channels one day and there's a lady's game on. I notice this one girls hat and I thought it said "Titless", and she was....I'm thinking "You go girl, wear it proudly"..well my friends almost had laughing seizures when I asked about her.........Cathy

Re: Performance enhancing drug use

I really want to chime in on this, but I dont want you all to think I'm an a**hole, I will say however, I dont want any kid to think it's ok to dope up to compete. But, I would have stuck a needle in my **** in a heart beat if it meant I could play Major League Baseball, no ifs ands or buts! But thats just me, I wont go into my reasoning on the forum, but would gladly talk to you one on one over a beer! I got a few anabolic steriod stories from peolpe I've played sports with and against.

For those of you non-golfing fans out there, what Cathy actually saw was the brand name "Titlelist" which is a major manufacturer of golf equipment, accessories and balls. I've been playing Titless golf balls for years.......I mean Titlelist. And I have a set of irons that came off the same assembly line as Titless irons, except they cost a whole lot less and don't carry the brand name Titless........I mean Titlelist!! Cathy, look at what you've done to me now! You crack me up.........................LOL!!

Roy

Correction...Titleist is THE manufacturer of golf equipment. Seems like all of the pros except for Tiger is playing the ProV1.

Re: Performance enhancing drug use

I grew up surrounded by athletes.  None of them used performance enhancing drugs, but then again, none of them were professionals.  I believe my uncle trained with Lance Armstrong.  It was probably almost 20 years ago though.  My dad is huge into running, biking, and kyaking.  When I was growing up he would sometimes bike 100+ miles a day.  My stepdad was a bodybuilder but doesn't anymore, as he has had two rotator cuff surgeries.

Deezer, I'm not going to defend Bonds, but if records need to be changed, there's a boatload of others that are just as guilty. It's got to make you wonder why Clemens and Sosa retired just long enough to purge their systems (hypothetically speaking), then felt compelled to return to the game suddenly. Why aren't we watching Jason Giambi chasing Aaron's record, or McGuire, or Sosa???? Regardless of the drugs or what he does off the field, Barry is flat out better than the rest. I feel lucky to have seen Maris, Aaron, Big Mac, and now Bonds reach these milestones in my lifetime.

My take on Bonds: He was the best player in baseball BEFORE he started all the "weightlifting" (nod, nod, wink, wink). Then he saw guys like Sosa and McGwire getting all the attention and maybe got a bit jealous or something. A year later he's the incredible hulk and hits 73 homers...what was the most he had hit previously, like 49??
He didn't need to do it and now he's basically changed his legacy to that of a cheater. He has nobody to blame but himself. You still need talent to hit a baseball, but how many of those chemically induced homers would have been warning track fly balls?

Having the chance to watch them on a day to day basis, not very many. it's more like, oh that one only hit the arcade walkway instead of out in the water.

Wonderfully stated, especially with, "He didn't need to do it and now he's basically changed his legacy to that of a cheater."

The reason he's more in focus than others is because he's breaking one of if not the most sacred records in baseball.  But the others should be held just as accountable.  This was able to get out of hand like this because you have the worst commisioner in baseball history, Bud Selig.  Wish it was Bud SeeyaLater.
Unfortunately, the scumbag Victor Conte, founder of Balco Labs got a short prison term.  They were also supplied to Olympic athletes.
