Mysterious to say the least. If it looks like that what would it's mother in law look like? 
Like it was mentioned - It could be a discarded whale placenta! But, i wouldn't know what one of those would look like! 
That thing is quite a wierd sight.

..whale placenta seems most logical but this 'thing' seems or appears to live!?
Very, very odd to say the least. About midway thru this I was seriously struck by how much this resembled the membranes around a baby, but so weird how it rolls around like it is alive. If you hear any more about this please let us know. Was a person filming this or remote control - I would have been hightailing it out of there very quickly!

Filmed remotely Sandy, not sure at what depth ? deep enough to require remote camera i guess!

We saw some cool stuff there but nothing remotely as bizarre as that. I will ask some of the scientists when I see them next. I do quite a bit of work on Scripp's research fleet and have seen remote sensors like the one that filmed this thing. It looks benthic and was probably at a mile or more of depth.
