Topic: BMA 2012

I thought I would start this just in case people wanted to express opinions about other awards, so we wouldn't divert from the congrats to Joe in the main topic in General.

I was hoping that Joe and Beth would win, so that the Blues-rock award could go to GT's 2120 S. Michigan, which I think is a particularly fine disc.

I was also hoping that the GIbson award would go to Michael Burks, since Derek Trucks already has awards coming out of his ears with plenty more to come....yes, I understand that voting took place before Michael died, but still.....

RIP Iron Man

Re: BMA 2012

I listened to most of it on Sirius/XM, missing just the last few major awards because I was pretty certain Tedeschi/Trucks would win album and band of the year. I wasn't surprised by most of the winners, except for Joe and Beth getting beat by Tab Benoit. It still amazes me that Joe has never been nominated in the "Gibson" Guitar Award category, Contemporary Male Artist, or Entertainer of the Year. Tab also won for Contemporary Male Artist and Entertainer of the Year. I've seen Tab quite a few times, he's very good, but it's hard for me to believe he could win Entertainer of the Year since his show has always been pretty much the same.

Speaking of entertaining, here's the real kicker. Almost all of the winners were present at the ceremony to receive their awards. Bill Wax - host on XM radio - proudly announced there was about 1300 fans there to watch the ceremony, which of course included performances by a number of the nominees. Meanwhile, Joe, the guy not worthy of Entertainer of the Year, was performing about 200 miles away in Nashville to an audience almost twice that present at the BMAs.

Here's a list of nominees and winners:

Lee, being from Minnesota you must be glad Biscuit Miller won in the Instumentalist-Bass category. He is one of MN own !! Biscuit is another artist that has been out on the road for a long time and is finally getting his due. Congratulations to all the winners for their musical efforts that we can enjoy.

Re: BMA 2012

very sad to me that Memphis's own Eric Gales was not nominated with Joe in the Rock/Blues Album category. Warren's effort is a good one, I bought it and love it, but nowhere near Eric's Transformation imo.

Re: BMA 2012

Its a little weird that Revelator wins Album of the Year but isnt nominated in any of the sub categories. I thought Dust Bowl was a far better album and wins its category but isnt nominated for Album of the Year. Im not really in love with Susan Tedeschi to begin with though.

Susan and Derek were nominated in a number of other categories and not surprising to me at all won every category they were nominated in. They would have won for Contemporary Blues Album if it was there as well. The only thing surprising is that none of the songs from "Revelator" were nominated, because it had a number of worthy tracks, IMO.

Re: BMA 2012

I too was surprised to see Joe and Beth not win, but the old guard still has their say and political way. They tossed a bone or two out to placate the growing noise IMO. It should get better as their numbers diminish.
