Yes, in Germany too.

Maiden is right. I have a Priest Song in my Ear, but it was Maiden.

Re: Last Song before Joe comes on Stage

It was Iron Maidens "Two Minutes To Midnight" in SLC, my first Joe Bonamassa concert still has me high!

Re: Last Song before Joe comes on Stage

That is the signature song! Joe has been doing that for quite sometime now.

He recently said if he had to open for a band it would be Maiden for the energy and the fan base. Having seen Maiden in concert you can understand why. Also, what a great countdown title for a guy who starts on the dot.

Re: Last Song before Joe comes on Stage

It started nearly 3 years ago and continues to be the call to the late comers to get your asses in the seats. I thought it a little out of place at first but it has grown on me. I believe it is a reference to the doomsday clock. Google that. In the context used as a concert countdown clock when the rock stops the blues rock begins.

Re: Last Song before Joe comes on Stage

I asked his guitar tech if he was a fan of Maiden and he said "Yes".  Not to mention that Kevin Shirley, his producer, also works with Iron Maiden. Kind of a connection there as well.

Looked it up on wikipedia.
"The song has references to the Doomsday Clock, the symbolic clock used by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. In September 1953 the clock reached 23:58, the closest the clock ever got to midnight. This occurred when the United States and Soviet Union tested H-bombs within nine months of one another."

I always thought it was interesting that producer Tom Dowd worked on the Manhattan Project that contributed to the atomic bomb.

As a sidenote, I recently picked up a few CD's on the reduced rack to keep in my car, including the Best of Gregg Allman. Inside the liner notes, Gregg says he wanted to be a dental surgeon since he was a young boy.  Music started as a hobby, Gregg thought he'd do that for a year, then go to dental school, but he got himself really in debt buying amps, guitars etc., so that eventually he gave up teeth for the keys of his hammond organ!

Speculation typically runs wild around here, but this is a logical explanation, Caveman/Maiden. My favorite, "hey it's showtime alert" is It's Bad You Know by R.L. Burnside which Tommy Castro uses. You know the Doobie Bros. are ready to hit the stage when you hear a Harley revving through the P.A. system.

The Metallica Prelude Song is "It's A Long Way To The Top" from AC/DC.

Re: Last Song before Joe comes on Stage

After seeing Joe live for the first time in March 2011, I created an iTunes playlist with the setlist he played at that show (cool thing about the Beacon video:  got live versions of the songs I didn't already have from that March show to replace the studio versions I had to use initially), and I included 2MTM at the beginning.  I get the same anticipatory tingle listening to that song on my iPod that I get hearing it live...   wink

Can you imagine an Iron Maiden/Joe Bonamassa show.  Would be there in a heartbeat! Would love to see the Maiden fans faces after that opener.
