Topic: Van Halen - 2012 Tour

I just saw Van Halen Thursday night at the Amway Center in Orlando.  Well... They may not move around and jump like they did in the 80's but I tell you...  it's still a high energy show.  I shot this video of Eddie playing solo from that night.   I love it. smile

Thanks Susan, wondering what that little red button on his guitar was? A twin turbo injection booster ... maybe? Sure sounded like one! ha ha smile

I think that's the kill switch. Instead of turning the volume down on one pickup, and using the toggle, he just hits the big red fun button!

Re: Van Halen - 2012 Tour

I'm going to see Van Halen at Charlotte NC Wednesday the 25th!!!  Thanks for the video!

Nice vid Susan. Eddie has stated before that his guitar hero was the late great Ronnie Montrose and you can hear Ronnie's influence all over that solo.

I've never heard that before, what interview did you hear that in? I would love to check that out. I've only ever heard of one guitar hero influence EVH has had and thats Eric Clapton, he say's he can play any Clapton solo he ever did, note for note. That's from an interview in 1978 here: http://jasobrecht.com/eddie-van-halen-c … nterviews/ .

I've been listening to the new VH album and it's killer! Sounds like where Fair Warning left off 30 years ago, I love it!

Cheers, Alex

Pretty sure it was a Rolling Stone interview, but when they talked about how they chose Sammy to replace David Lee Roth the VH bros. & Michael Anthony said that even though they auditioned other singers it was a no brainer that Sammy was their guy since Montrose was their favorite band growin' up. It also mentioned that Dave's Dad who was a physician bankrolled the band in the beginning with stage worthy gear.

Re: Van Halen - 2012 Tour

I'm excited about seeing Van Halen in May. Thanks for the vid post! Seeing Van Halen when I was 14 at Candlestick Park in San Francisco in 1988 was one of those "concerts you will never forget"

Re: Van Halen - 2012 Tour

I just got back from seeing them in Charlotte NC and I've got to say I'm a Dimond Dave fan!  I've been to 100's of shows in the last 13 years and I know you won't believe it but this is the Best show in the country right now, best show I've ever seen!

Re: Van Halen - 2012 Tour

Good to hear. I have tickets for Seattle on May 5th. Haven't seen Van Halen since 1978......man, I'm old

Yes, good to hear! I'm seeing them in Seattle/Tacoma as well! Really looking forward to it, I'm jonesin' for some good live music.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hl4Gfk6ppw0  This is no comparison to how it sounded in person.  This might only make it a tenth of the tone.

Re: Van Halen - 2012 Tour

Good to hear indeed!

I'm at the Oakland Ca. show on June 3rd.....and I haven't seen VH live since the Fair Warning Tour of '81.....in June, at the same venue no doubt.

"Got myself a band new Oakland scarf right here".....................Check out the video of "So This Is Love" from '81.

Re: Van Halen - 2012 Tour

Is that Oracle Arena the Coliseum? I haven't been down to Oakland in awhile, now that there are flights from Seattle to Santa Rosa.

Not to be confused with O.co stadium next door, home of the A's & Raiders. Oracle arena sounds like where you'd go for a Greek tragedy, LOL! Or would that be the Greek Theater @ Cal Berkeley??? Last gig I saw @ Oracle, "Shook Me All Night Long!" w/ rpic in attendance as well.
