Topic: Howard and the White Boys...
If I could, I would like to introduce you all to an absolutely fabulous band out of Chicago that I happened to see this past March 31st up in Rothschild, Wisconsin. It was at what’s called the “Blues Café” and each year the Great Northern Blues Society, of which I am a member, put on a multi-band show. Last year, Joanne Shaw Taylor and Tinsley Ellis were the headliners and this year it was, Albert Castiglia and Chris Duarte who headlined. Each and every year it is a wonderful day of music, food and a little beer and wine too.
The third group up out of all five this year was called, “Howard and the White Boys”, and they are comprised of Howard McCullum (Vocals, Bass Guitar), Jim Christopulos (Drums), Rocco Calipari (Electric Guitars) and Pete Galanis (Electric Guitars, Lap Steel). To say these four guys blew us all away would be quite an understatement. In my opinion, they are the finest Chicago style Blues Band to come out of Chicago since the Brooks brothers, Ronnie and Wayne. With Howard anchoring the middle, flanked by Pete and Rocco on the sides and Jim on drums, what you have is a very lethal combination of talent and musical experience. They call Tommy Shannon and Chris Layton “Double Trouble”. Well, then these guys I officially name, “Quadruple Trouble” because, that’s what they are!
I don’t expect you to believe me without some proof, so here are three songs that I was able to capture this day. Get ready for…
