Topic: James Gang Revisited & Great 70's Albums
Been listening to a lot of classic rock (circa '70 to '79) lately and tripped over James Gang's Thirds this morning. It would be the band's last album with Joe Walsh and some said their weakest. I would have to disagree strongly with that assessment. Thirds a very interesting effort with a nice mixture of acoustic, blues, rock, funk and country. "Walk Away" sounds like "Funk 49" part 2, "Midnight Man" an early Eagles rocker and then you get something off the wall like "Yadig?" with its jazzy piano and tasty guitar solo by Walsh. Pretty good stuff and an overlooked gem.
Others I've been listen to from the period are Steely Dan's Aja and don't gasp, but Stephen Bishop's Bish from 1978.

http://youtu.be/7rjJZ2oiA8w Short and sweet. Bish is an interesting album that must be played completely - first song to last. A lot of the albums back then demanded that and I miss the experience. Incredibly it starts off with "If I only Had a Brain" on trombone.
