Topic: Rocco DeLuca
Rocco DeLuca is a unique artist that I've seen live many times. I've seen him play full blown rock shows with his band as well as with Daniel Lanois and I've seen him acoustic. He's always been mesmerizing.
He plays a dobro resonator. He's very connected with artists such as Robert Johnson. He listens to old Smithsonian recordings to hear the earliest blues musicians ever recorded.
He just released a solo album yesterday titled Drugs n' Hymns. It's a very stripped down acoustic album and a lot of it is just his voice and the dobro. It has a very ethereal and hypnotic quality. He recorded it in an empty room - not in a studio - yet it has a very interesting and creative sound. He's worth checking out for anyone who likes this type of music.
There is a free podcast in iTunes in which he is interviewed and plays some live tracks. If you search "Guitar Center with Nic Harcort" you will find it in iTunes.
