Topic: Jimmy Page

Hello everyone, I've been a member of this board for a while, though I don't post all that much. I wanted to let everyone know I've started a blog, but this one I think will be unique. I intend to take a journey through the life of Jimmy Page by learning as many songs as I possibly can that he ever recorded. From his skiffle days to Neil Christian, from the session years to the Yardbirds, from Led Zeppelin and beyond. I also want to go into depth about the man himself, from obvious facts to arcane knowledge. As well as explore the instuments, amps, and effects he used to make his music.

This is going to be a loooooong process of course but I think in the end I will become a better guitar player and maybe understand Jimmy Page just a little bit more, or at least how his mind worked creatively and how he developed as a musician. That's the goal anyway. I intend to explain the ins and outs of each song and then play them, describe how its going in the process, what parts are easy, what parts are difficult. Hopefully if you do end up reading it, you might be able to learn along with me.

I'm very excited about this venture and I invite you all to take the journey with me. So take a look, I've already figured out how to play skiffle like a 13 year old Jimmy Page and you can see how to do so yourself.

Take care everyone.

Re: Jimmy Page

As a person who has 99% of all known bootlegs and recordings of Page...I know this is going to be a great undertaking. I look forward to it.

Re: Jimmy Page

Fascinating read so far with some obscurities unearthed. I look forward to the continuing effort. Good thing the biology thing got sidetracked for music.

Wow, that's impressive!  I collected CDs and Japanese boots but got to be expensive.  Did the "tree" thing for a while.  Now w/ the internet, you can get virtually any show.  Still love Listen to this Eddie!  Bonham was on fire!

Re: Jimmy Page

This is cool Zoso.  Learn something new everyday, I did not know about the famous Petula Clark song Downtown. I knew Jimmy did alot of session work early on. I'm looking forward to reading more. Have fun and I hope you achieve even better guitar skills. smile

Awestruck

Re: Jimmy Page

Wow, thank you so much everybody for all the support. I will keep this going for sure! I have a pretty extensive collection of bootlegs myself, I don't know about 99% of everything he's ever done, but my Terabyte external hard-drive is bulging with Jimmy Page, haha.

Re: Jimmy Page

I enjoyed reading about the early days and Jimmy's different guitars and had a good laugh over the biological research!! A couple things I'm curious about that you may know off the top of your head...

Jimmy's vocals-I've only seen him sing in those real early days. Has he ever stated anything about his vocals?

I hate to have favorites and maybe its just a sentimental favorite, but I'm a HUGE fan of Led Zeppelin's first album. Was that the last time Jimmy played the telecaster? And did he play the tele on the whole album?

He hasn't really "stated" anything about his vocals, but I know he did sing backup on the first album. "Good Times Bad Times" specifically.

As for the telecaster he used it up until the mid-70's and actually that was the guitar he used to record the solo for "Stairway to Heaven" on. While recording the first Zeppelin album he used a mix of the Telecaster and his Gibson Black Beauty Les Paul. Unfortunately the telecaster was destroyed while he was on tour in America and his friend decided to paint over the dragon paint job he had applied to it. However he did take the neck off and put it on another Telecaster body that he had, and that was his main guitar in his post-Zeppelin band "The Firm".

Ya dun good.  A labor of Love.  John Paul Jones is one of my favorite bass players ever.  I'd love to see something similar for him.  Nice work.

I presume some of you are familiar with Dave Lewis and his Tight But Loose mag - he knows everything about Zeppelin - if you are a Zeppelin nut, check him out on facebook - just search Tight But Loose - Dave has written some great books on Zeppelin too.........I bumped into Page in a Oxfam book shop a couple of years back in London's Marylebone High Street - he was just browsing - I was too shocked to say hello!!!!

Re: Jimmy Page
