Re: VATA Tour

I’ve noticed this review of VATA’s support slot for Robin Trower at the Kendall Brewery arts Centre last September that’s just appeared in the current issue of Blues Matters! (BM64). I’ll e-mail you a copy if you wish, Martin.

“Virgil & The Accelerators opened with a powerful set of extended numbers at breakneck speed. This young band are an old-style power trio with guitarist Virgil McMahon possessing possibly the strongest and definitely the fastest rhythm hand I’ve seen. While brother Gabriel (drums) and Jack Timmis (bass), held the line Virgil arched his back and produced one searing solo after another interspaced [sic] with manic rhythm playing. A short but electrifying support hampered only by the muddy sound of the vocals.”

Yet another reviewer gobsmacked by VATA and in particular, Virgil’s prowess on the guitar. smile  Something we’ve all known for some time. It's sad to read that the sound was poor for VATA as there was no mention of this for Trower. What is it about the sound for support acts? I’ve noticed it so many times over the years that it makes me wonder if the guys on the sound desk do it on purpose.

Re: VATA Tour

If you scan or copy it, I would be grateful Phil. The vocals, I dont remember them being muddy but it is down to the support band being pushed forward. Brings virgils amps closer the vocal mike and it is a battle between the sound guy, virgils vocals and his amps. It will be great in sound check but once he gets going, his amps go up a bit and throws everything is off. V does have a rawness to his voice too. That gig was great, it was rammed;) Look out out for a very special gig later in the year, invite only at a very very cool venue. Oh I am such a tease wink

Re: VATA Tour

Martin, how about an update of tour dates in Europe?
Stumbled about some dates in March in Luxembourg and Geelen.
March isn't so far away and loads of bands are on tour ... I need to know

Re: VATA Tour

Hi Guys,
I can only confirm 3 so far:
march
23 Garaasj - Geleen.
28  Bluescafe - Apeldoorn
30  Luxembourg - Brasserie Le Neumünster - Luxembourg

We have more but I cannot confirm them, kind of frustrating but until we have a particualt peoce of paper work returned, the gig is not happening. We also have a bunch of radio shows booked, for interviews and acoustic sets. Should be able to confirm more gigs in 1 weeks time.

Re: VATA Tour

Any news regarding 24 or 25 March???
Maybe you could name a town in a distance of 20 kilometers.
I have to make a decision - Philip Sayce or VATA.

edit - I then I find ther's a new VATA thread.... still if something's worth shouting about, it's worth shouting twice...Mike

PS Blues Sissi - if it turned out Philip Sayce AND VATA can I have first chance of your sofa for a couple of nights?  smile

Re: VATA Tour

We are keeping this tour short and sweet. We have plans for a longer tour in sept. I can confirm the following:

23rd March Bluesclub Garaasj, Geleen
24th March Radio Show with live acoustic
25th March Radio Show with live acoustic
28th March Bluescafe Appledorn
30th March Blues Club @ Brasserie Le Neumunster, Luxumburg
31st march Amsterdam, to be confirmed.

Trying to reschedule another gig in the Dam for the 26th/27th. Looking forward to seeing those who can make it, boys are up for it. Andre interview welcome, will email you.
For anyone coming, be prepared, this aint no re-hashed blues band. They is full force blues rock (for want of a better description), that gets into your soul.

Hi Martin. Is that an Amsterdam gig at the 24th AND the 31th???

Bibi, I bought 2 tickets for Philip Sayce at Zeche Bochum on 24th!
VATA in Amsterdam is a bit too far away for me to cry now, but maybe now you are crying that you have a ticket for Philip Sayce in Bochum, Germany and VATA is playing at your doorsteps at home??
