Topic: Blues From The White House...

Just a snip of last night's activities. I think a few here might recognize some of the artists performing, "I'd Rather Go Blind"...

Would have liked to have seen Joe on the bill too!

Actually Roy, since I'd seen Joe and Beth flat kill this song, all I could think was 'what if'. T&T did a credible interpretation but it pales in comparison. I thought thier performance was the weakest of all the acts.

...superb performance from Mr Trucks acting as one, or if not the best, slide players out there! .... ....

edit by A/h - I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner. I have removed your final sentence Pete, because of two reasons - it was a political comment of a kind that we do not make on this forum, and it was insulting to the president.

Re: Blues From The White House...

Yes I agree with you Derek is probably the #1 Slide player today.......he sends chills down my spine with his playing

Re: Blues From The White House...

I watched most of this last night whilst flipping back and forth to the Nascar race. It was really good to see Buddy Guy in top form, Jeff Beck was tremendous as well. But what stole the show for me was the combo of Shemekia Copeland and Gary Clark Jr. They made my eyes rain.

Re: Blues From The White House...

I too really enjoyed the Shamika/Gary Clark Jr. song, but, IMHO Keb Mo delivered by far the best performance of the night.  The sound of a resonator just gets right to the heart of the blues for me and his voice fits so perfectly with the song and the genre.

As to "I'd rather go blind", it's a tough comparison as Beth & Joe's version is easily my favorite track on their CD, but I so love Susan's voice, Derek's slide and Warren's voice and playing.  I had to ask myself, if I had never heard Beth & Joe, would I have liked last night's version and it was a resounding yes.

Re: Blues From The White House...

I really enjoyed this show last night, its hard to believe it was an hour, it went by so fast!!

Love Shemeka-WHAT A VOICE and I think she was even holding back a little!!!!  Gary Clark was cool, always love Keb Mo.

For me, the best act was Trombone Shorty because I just uncovered someone I can add to my collection.  (love when he gets funky in a James Brown kinda' way!!)

OK, my idea for the day, I want to mail President Obama my extra copy of Joe & Beth...he has to hear their version of I'd Rather Go Blind!!! wink But for you social networking folks if you're on Obama's social networks, post a Joe & Beth clip while complimenting last night's show!

Shreddy

Re: Blues From The White House...

I noticed the same Shreddy. I imagine he darn near bit his tongue off. Nice show though. The orig was cooler since it had all the warts and foobars on the live feed. They cut a bunch of stuff out.

Re: Blues From The White House...

I also noticed Mick Jagger changed a few lyrics for "Miss You"...although he didn't give a smart a$$ look like he did back in the early days when, on the Ed Sullivan show,  he had to change the words from "Lets Spend The Night Together" to "Lets Spend Some Time together"  smile

Re: Blues From The White House...

I sent myself a bunch of email reminders to watch & record it, but I got home late and forgot.  Fortunately I remembered in time to see the last couple of songs and it was a blast.  Whole lotta talent up on stage there!
