I've gotta confess to be a closet Soul Music junkie. Lately it's been Curtis Mayfield, but today I bought three Stevie Wonder albums - Innervisions, Fulfillness First Finale and Songs In the Key of Life. I had all three on vinyl many years ago, but thought it's about time to get 'em on my iPod. This type music purely relaxes and calms me plus I promised, from my gargantuan procrastinating rearend, to my buddy Big Jeff to forward a bowl full of Soul.

That's why they call it "Soul" music. It always picks me up. until the Beatles came around Motown was about all I listened to as a kid growin' up in Cleveland. I could pick up Detroit radio @ night on my Philco transistor.

Guilty as well. Wore out Superfly on vinyl, and Innervisions and Fullingness First Finale are on the iPod. Good stuff!
Discovered this morning that one of my favorite modern day soul singers, Tre Williams, recently released his second album with The Revelations. Concrete Blues is a prime example that Soul Music still breathes in the 21st century. I found a nice review of the cd and I'll try to find a vid of this cat if any are interested.

Another interesting singer I've come across is Darondo. Kind of a poor man's Al Green/Curtis/Marvin, but his Let My People Go is very good stuff. Apparently John Mayer's mined some of this guy's groove.

If you dig "Soul" music you gotta give a shout out to Atlantic Records Jerry Wexler who coined the term Rythym & Blues to replace the term "Race records" to market what we came to know as "Soul" music outside of the black community. Jerry was a Billboard columnist turned record producer and became a partner @ Atlantic Records working side by side with the great Tom Dowd recording Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin just to mention a few.

...my son and I stood in that basement a few months back and got the story telling of a lifetime, our host was amazing.....that place is tiny!...they joined both houses together, Gordy that is....they all grew up in the same neighborhood, it gave me chills
