#2 "What an employee wants"

      a) Tell me what you want.
      b) Give me the tools to do it.

      d) Tell me how I did.

Managerial Skills Lesson #2:
Show the employees you're not afraid to get your hands dirty.

Don't expect the employees to do the work you're not willing to do yourself - it's called Leadership!

I agree.
Steve Jobs wouldn't.

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Surely you jest.  In the excitement of my last encounter with royalty, what I called her was neither name nor title.   tongue

I can't remember calling any priests "Father" either.  Some may call me arrogant, but I'm just following instructions from a power greater than any earthbound royalty.

Aside from that the point stands.  I have a posse that would go through the door for me or with me.  They will gladly do for me what I am incapable of doing myself; sometimes without even being asked.  It's LOVE.& respect.

If employees won't do what I am unwilling (or incapable) to do, we won't have to call them employees for long.

Hiss, piss and moan constantly.  Your underlings will know you are doing SOMETHING, even if nothing more than hissing, pissing, and moaning...

Re: Managerial Skills Lesson #1

In my circuit we practice management by paralysis.  So it's weird because I work for HQ (rogue agent) not fitting in to the local hierarchy.  What makes it weird is I have more rank than even the supervisors, but no authority because local staff does not work for me.   I'm just the computer geek.

Recently I overrode a local decision in private and the staff (the officers) rewarded me openly.  Almost biblical...
