Eric Gales and Stoney Curtis had a double billing at a club in Santa Rosa a month or so back. Supposedly it was a DVD shoot.
If there is a Shrapnel Records site (I'm too lazy to check, LOL) there might be some details there.
Transformation is just as fierce as Relentless, clean production and driving rhythm with Eric dealing out some truly wicked solo work.
A Hard hitting Blues/Rock album that should be purchased by all lovers of Bad **** Blues, Eric is moving up the gears in this genre and with the last 2 CD releases should definitely be noticed and ackknowledged worldwide with sucessful tours, he is on the cusp of moving into the upper echelon with Joe, Philip Sayce Lance Lopez and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
An artist just way too good to go unoticed.
A brief track by track review
Railroaded ..... Gritty blues rocker swagging all over with a brutal chunky riff and Eric throwing off devastating guitar sparks
Double Dippin' ..... Eric solo alongside a fast paced foot tappin' country shuffle
Tortured Mind ..... Like some heavy rock tune from the 70's, rough and tough with a devilish hook
I Pity The Fool ..... Tearing off and racin away with powerful rock, Eric just don't let up, this is scorchin stuff
Altered Destiny ..... Reminscent of a funky Led Zep rock tune, Eric surely has his finger on the BluesRock pulse (my fave)
Time Waits For No One ..... Tick Tock Guitar Rock, and the rhythm kicks in hard
Catchin' Up With The Past ..... Eric slows it down a tad, but not in power on a tale renewal on his life's journey
Transformation ..... The title track has a strong message within and is surrounded by music on a epic arrangement
Sometimes Wrong Feels Right ..... The first low tempo soft tune in a real bluesy feel with Eric in step up creshendo mood
Sea Of Bad Blood ..... Brilliant FunkJazzRock groove is a nice change of pace, great lyrics here too, Awesome song
Too Late To Cry ..... Light RnB like song and a standout piece that shows the varied talent of Eric on the last 2 tunes
I Wouldn't Treat A Dog That Way ..... Tough power chords unleashed on a Blues Rocker, A stylish brutal album finale.
Your CD Collection is Incomplete without Relentless and Transformation
................ Michael
PS, Tres you know it, thanks
A matter of personal taste I'm sure but I prefer "Relentless" over "Transformation".
Thanks much Michael for your review, oddly enough I listened to it again last night all the way through. It is definitely a personal taste thing, my son likes Relentless better. I like Transformation a little bit better because it has a throwback feel to it on some songs that makes me compare to Crystal Vision or That's What I Am. I have heard groups of both songs played in concert. Our last trip to Memphis in September was for the CD release event at Levitt Shell. He played Double Dippin, Time Waits For No One, Transformation, Sea of Bad Blood, and Too Late to Cry. With Paul Taylor on bass and 'Hot' Cleveland on drums they absolutely killed every one. Without knowing it prior (set list was already done when we arrived) he played all of my favorites on the CD except for Altered Destiny. Maybe this is why I like it better, not sure. In any case they are both great and I agree that you need both to fully appreciate how he has turned it around since the jail time.
Thanks again Michael, I sure wish I had your way with words.

I'm waiting for another live performance. I like both releases, maybe Relentless a bit more but that may change with more play. I agree he is on the cusp of breaking out. Just too much talent to be overlooked for long. Anyone that has him come near should go out of their way to see him. One of the great guitarists out there right now.
Rick
I just saw a facebook post for NAMM in late January with a concert of Eric.
NAMM Show 2012: Featuring Eric Gales, Kirk Fletcher and Yuya Komoguchi. Live from the world famous Lighthouse Cafe in Hermosa Beach, CA. January 23, 2012. Doors open at 7:30PM
Does that mean he might make it to Coach House again this year or down in San Diego? Hermosa Beach is a bit of a stretch driving wise. Especially on a Monday!

Rick, I don't see anything posted on Eric's website. Arthur IV says he does not know of any new scheduled concerts, but he is not doing much for them any more. But it seems probable that they are trying to book him somewhere out there in that time frame of the NAAM show. I sent him a text a couple weeks ago just checking in to see what he was up to, he texted back that his new signature pedal has come out and will be showing that off out there. If I hear anything, and you will probably hear before I do, I will post or send you an email.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep my eyes peeled. That is an artist I don't want to miss if he comes near again.
Congrats to Eric for making the Blues Rock Review's top twenty of 2011. I knew it was a good effort, this just confirms further that heees baaack. Now if they, whoever they are, would get some of the songs and concert footage from Levitt Shell posted to Utube I would be elated. Lord knows, I have asked and asked and still do not understand why it hasn't happened.
Keep on rocking my man!

thanks very much Rick and George and everybody else here that likes what he's doing, I tell him all the time that he has a bunch of fans on this site. And he tells me he'd give anything to someday make it onto the stage with Joe. I want to also congratulate my son, Arthur Smith IV, for helping Eric with his website and in the process being included in the liner credits. I am really proud of him, but it did cost me a bunch of copies to the extended family.
And congrats also to Mike Varney at Shrapnel, guitarist - writer - producer extraordinare

Not sure if this should stand alone, but for the SoCal gang, Eric is headlining a great gig in the LA region with some pretty good players. Two days of Blues for $35, he plays on Sat. http://www.facebook.com/groups/24557333 … mp;theater
