Topic: Joe's Coming!! Joe's Coming!!

Next Friday.  I can't wait!  Going to downtown Oakland on a Friday night is like going into Afghanistan unarmed waving an American flag, but who cares if Joe is there.

Joe:

If you to read this, please include The River and The Great Flood in your show.  I know The River is an old song, but dang you smoke on slide!  Because of you, I had to buy a Chandler just for that tone.  I still haven't heard the end of that one from the wife.  :-))

Re: Joe's Coming!! Joe's Coming!!

I'm Also REALLY looking forward to this show. Last time Joe was in Reno during the summer and it is Impossible for me to get away then. But with the down economy December is wide open smile

Plan to avoid the Major Oakland thing by hanging in Jack London Square. Did find out a restaurant I wanted to try is closed. I wonder where Joe will eat ?

Re: Joe's Coming!! Joe's Coming!!

Welcome to the forum Chef Ron. Hopefully someone with local knowledge of the dmz in Oakland can come up with an eatery within close range of the venue. We're flying up that afternoon. See you there. smile

Re: Joe's Coming!! Joe's Coming!!

Almost here! Can't wait! Please let me know if anyone comes up with a place to meet & dine before the show. I'm planning on getting into town around 4:00 so I have quite a bit of time to kill before the show.

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

I'm headin' to my buddy's place off of High Street on Alameda Island - Great American BBQ.  It's a short 10-min. drive to downtown and is the best BBQ in the Bay Area.  Anyone interested?  High Street is right after the Raider coliseum on 880 and is close to the airport.

Sounds good to us. We get in to the airport about 4 and then to a car rental so we should make it by 5 or so.

Is Great American BBQ the name of the place?

Good luck parking after you leave the island. The food @ Luka's Tap Room is just as good.

So what is the deal about parking near the theater?

Where are they at in relation to the theater? Personally, I'm ok with any place nearby.

I've never been skunked yet trying to find parking.

Great American BBQ is 5 miles from the Paramount.

The wife and I will be at GA BBQ at 5:00 and should be in downtown by 6 or so.  People are leaving work, so parking in the garages will be opening up.  I plan to be sitting on a bar stool sipping a tall, frosty one by 6:45.  I love reserve seat shows.

That's a good plan of attack, just don't roll in @ 7:30 and hope to park within a block or two. There's a multi level garage next to the theater and some pay lots within a few blocks and as I mentioned before there is no event @ the Fox Theater that night. Even so there are a lot of restaraunts in the neighborhood and parking does get scarce.
