Topic: Larry Miller - Hartlepool Cameron's club 12/11/11

Packed out night at the Top room in the Cameron's club on Saturday. Russ Tippins doing an acoustic set, opening for Larry Miller, hot foot (or guitar) from Carlisle's Blues Fest.

Russ did a cracking, eclectic acoustic set, building from a "pastoral" start through a couple of unsual choices such as "Billie Jean" to a grand finish of Uriah Heep's "Gypsy" and Zepp's "Kashmire". Only thing, either the germlins were out, or someone had been putting phoney 50ps in the meter as the electric tripped a couple of times, mid-song. However, Russ is a true pro, bided his time and just picked up where he left off.

No such problems for Larry; it was "Miller time" and he hit the stage running and gave a barnstorming show. I'm not too familiar with Larry's stuff, I have to admit, but I don't think there was one track that didn't impress, from "Delilah" (not the SAHB/Tom Jones one) to "Shame On You"  "Gambler's Hill", "Cruel Old World" and so-on. This was just a good, old-fashioned, rockin' blues show of the highest order that would serve as a lesson to all the young guns on the road - respect your elders!

Hi Mike,

Coudn't agree more, I've seen him live a few times and each time you leave with a smile on your face. Larry is fantastic value for money and if he's playing near you just go and have a great night out.

I'll be seeing him in March at the Cheese & Grain in Frome.

No matter how far you try to push the envelope, it remains stationery

That was my first "Miller Time"; he's a name I've been aware of, but a couple of friends said I had to go, and it was a top recommendation. Already looking forward to the Guisborough night next year (though they'll have to watch the sound levels, Guisborough's roof is already in a bad way). Then he's down for another local RnB club, Sedgefield later in the summer - ticket's already reserved for that one.

Nice review. 1st time for me - both at Cameron's and seeing Larry who was great value for money - and a nice bloke - enjoyed chatting with time both before and after the show. Really enjoyed the slower - bluesier - numbers and he's not a bad guitarist either. To top off a great night, I won the footie card which paid for my night out and a Larry CD too.

Will be back at Cameron's on Friday for Virgil and the Accelerators.

Cheers Dave - Tommy organises some really good nights at the Cameron's, so keep an eye out. I'll be at the VATA show too, as well as the night after at Mainsforth.

Re: Larry Miller - Hartlepool Cameron's club 12/11/11

Saw Larry play back in feb. at the flowerpot in derby for the first time; and since then I have been to four more 'Miller Time' shows and each time Larry blow me away with his show. Just took my girlfriend to see him last saturday and even she was blown away....plus he really banter with the crowd and has a great sense of humor...

Talking to Larry last saturday after the gig and he working on getting a new album out around feb...which I am looking forward to....

Just saying to anybody that reading this; if Larry Miller coming to town, go see him, I think you will enjoy it
