Re: Divas & Whom are your favorite female Vocalists?

Twenty posts and no mention of The Goddess yet?  mad  roll

That's just plain wrong.

I like and have liked many lovely lady singers already mentioned here, like Grace Slick, Linda Ronstadt, Dana Fuchs, Beth Hart and yes, Dusty Springfield!  big_smile  I remember being heartbroken when I discovered that Dusty was of the other persuasion.  sad

But, let's get down to it - in 'our' world there is surely only one true Goddess, and her name is Bonnie Raitt!  cool   big_smile   tongue

big_smile I was awaiting that from you! Of course she is in the list. There's a long legged one that has been on the rise lately too.  tongue Diva, I'm not so sure... but I'm a runnin when she's near.

Rick, we talking about Grace? I would like to add Susan Tedeschi Trucks and Shemekia Copeland. and a hearty +1 on Bonnie, Linda, and absolutely one of the most powerful voices all time in Annie Lennox. Ever heard Linda's CD where she sings the old jazz/big band standards? It melted me to the core.

Some great names mentioned on here.......Bonnie Raitt, Susan Tedeschi, Aretha to name just a few but for my money it has to be Billie Holiday  cool

never give up, never slow down
never grow old, never ever die young

Re: Divas & Whom are your favorite female Vocalists?

Grace Slick will be the first to tell you she wasn't much of singer but she could belt it out volume wise.

Awestruck

Yes, yes and YES! Linda is tops in my book. So many radically different places she's touched musically. Blowing away Mexico with her amazing Mariachi music was another of her triumphs. Last time I saw her was on her Canciones de mi Padre tour. When she sang La Paloma, a trained white pigeon flew down and lit on her fingers. That brought down the house!
Here is a stunning example of Mexican "Blues". Few duets have ever been sung so well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQtN6oei … re=related This brings tears to my eyes every time.

Re: Divas & Whom are your favorite female Vocalists?

I think someone already mentioned Joni. She and Linda were my 2 favs in the 70's. This is one of the best songs from Shadows and Light, and apparently the tour in support of that release, circa 1979. She never cheated anybody on the backing musicians, saw her earlier in the 70's with Tom Scott/LA Express featuring Tom on sax and a guy name Robben Ford. Just a beautiful voice, sorry for the rant.

I had mentioned LeAnn Rimes & Josh Stone earlier. Here's a couple of clips I found:

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Jaco Pastorius just smokes the rest of the band on your vid.  The Jimi Hendrix of bassists.

That's Pat Metheny on guitar, however Robben did play with Joni, just not that night.

Christina Booth  [Magenta] The best prog band around!!!

Re: Divas & Whom are your favorite female Vocalists?

I gotta go with a couple that were already mentioned, Joss Stone and LeeAnn Rhimes.  I don't care for some of her lyrics but I love Pink's vocals also.
