Topic: Skynyrd in a Vynyrd +Much More
I attended the 25th Annual BR Cohn Charity concert Sunday with 9 other frynds and without a doubt it was one of the best gigs I've been to in my concert career. The show opened with Carlos Reyes followed by Doobie daughter Lara Johnston. Some of you might remember her from MTV's Rock The Cradle competition. Young Lara has definitely found her groove, her vocals and stage presence have grown by leaps and bounds in the past 3 years. From there this gig went through the roof if there was a roof, the event is held on a sloping hillside under the olive trees with the vineyard in the back stage background. The Captain of space & time Leon Russell whipped everybody into a Tulsa boogie mood along with a couple of his ballads. Next up, Little Feat, who only played 4 numbers, but that's because they jammed on Fatman In The Bathtub for 20+ minutes. Following another efficiently executed set change the annual house band The Doobie Brothers rocked it hard like they always do with Jim Messina joining them for the last 2 songs. The owner of the BR Cohn Winery, Bruce Cohn, has managed the Doobs since their beginning and put this charity event together once a year to benefit a number of needy causes in Sonoma's Valley of the Moon. Time for the finale and Lynyrd Skynyrd tore the place up! Bluezman posted about a hundred pics on Facebook so I'll see if he'll post 'em up here for a visual of this fabulous day of music, food, wine, & good times. The Sat. line up included Carlos Reyes, Jeff Watson(from Night Ranger), Jim Messina, Leon Russell, & The Doobie Brothers w/ spec. guests Sammy Hagar & Joe Satriani. Fri. night they hosted a celebrity chef dinner and auction with local chef Guy Fieri. They wrap up the event on Mon. with a celebrity golf tournament. Can't wait for next year!!!
