Topic: Johnny Winter's New Release

Johnny Winter's new album Roots was released today and gotta say it's a smokin' affair.  Joining him in the studio are a stable of mightyfine artists - Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, Susan Tedeschi, Sonny Landreth, Jimmy Vivino, Vince Gill, Edgar Winter, John Popper and others.  The thing that makes this album so good is the great song selection and Johnny letting the guests do their own thing.  Imo, this album's significantly better than most I've heard this year and right now in my top five.  Johnny has never sounded better, both vocally and guitar playing.  Give it a listen and I think you'll agree

Re: Johnny Winter's New Release

I'm going to have to check this out. I'm a JW fan from way back. With that recommendation, it sounds like he has another winner.

Re: Johnny Winter's New Release

Thanks Curby for the review. You have great taste in music.

I'm definitely going to pick up this one.

Johnny has always been one of my faves...but I'm a little biased toward my fellow Texans and ANYONE who plays slide guitar ;-)

Re: Johnny Winter's New Release

It's a great album indeed. I a few weeks, we www.bluesmagazine.nl ,are having an interview with Mr. Winter. Will be great musicmoment for us.

Re: Johnny Winter's New Release

Fans will be glad to hear that Johnny is doing much better, health-wise, and has been smoking audiences in western Canada! This info courtesy of my good friend, David Gogo, who is opening for him there.

Re: Johnny Winter's New Release

It´s just playing on my CD player: not too overwhelming but very nice straight music. Of course I like the guest appearences of Sony, Derek and Warren. I´m not sure if it´s wise to go on tour so soon - even if he feels better healthwise. The last time I saw him he was so fragile he could hardly hold his guitar, the time before the show was cancelled at last minute because the band had disappeared.
