Bot ate your post. You guys are so fortunate to have all these great people playing out there. He won't be coming this way unless it's Atlanta. We get the retro/combo shows, no insult intended but I get tired of them hyping the Foreigner/Journey dual and triple artist shows here. I tell you my friends, we get next to nothing. It must be nice being in large markets.

Re: Buddy Guy

This reminds me that Buddy is playing  the Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland this year...along with Robert Cray, James Harmon, Lucinda Williams, and several more...This is a great event and the largest Blues festival west of the Mississippi. This is truly a great event...It's worth planning a trip to PDX to attend, if you like the new Blues adventures...Joe has played this event...IF you are interested it's............. waterfrontbluesfest.com

Sounds like a candidate for a separate topic. I've heard of it. Lots of fans up in your neck of the woods.

Re: Buddy Guy

Buddy was sick and weak with fever, though in good voice. He had to leave and go backstage after the opening songs to cool down, but came back and did some acoustic John Lee Hooker on a stool, then a bit of blues and a great "74 Years" before he gave out and let the band close by themselves.  He gave it his best and it was worth every cent to see this legend hang tough and deliver a show when most would have canceled. Vid police very watchful but I stealthed a bit. I got some good audio clips though. Busy today but I'll check it tomorrow and see if there's anything worth putting up.

Re: Buddy Guy

Buddy was not feeling well last night.  He came out and played a bit, then had to leave the stage for a few mimutes.  He came back on and sat down on a stool and played some old Muddy Waters and Albert King stuff on his acoustic, picked up his electic and played a song or two off his new cd, then had to leave the stage again.  I think Rick got some vids, but security made him stop.

Not a great experience

Re: Buddy Guy

Mike and Rick,
Was this the first time seeing Buddy for either (or both) of you? Buddy's shows have a historicity of not knowing what you are going to get with King George.

I've seen him twice before Rocket. I was taken aback when he removed his strat mid song while the band played on, walked over to the tech and spoke, the tech then ran off, brought back an acoustic, Buddy started to pick it up, then shook his head and left the stage. The tech then ran off again and brought out a stool and put it by the mic.  The organist tried to keep the song going but his mic was dead. It was quite chaotic for a while. The band played one more song with the organist singing, then Buddy came back, apologized and said he had been "under the weather" for a few days but didn't want to cancel, and had "cooled himself with a damp towel". He played some more sitting on a stool with an acoustic. He then got up and played with the strat but walked off and left the band to try and close it with a different guitarist who hadn't played before, using his strat (badly). He was obviously weak and suffering. Never came out for last bows, no encore. I have most of this on video, including the walk off mid set, but would never put it up. A disturbing set. I pray he's all right.
edit, I just looked and I have some very good vid of the acoustic stuff as well as more where he was doing well. I'll consider an edit and running it up. I got 75% of the show before the vid police noticed and made me stop.

Sad to hear Buddy had an off night. I hope he's back to his scorching best soon!
