Topic: Another German Genius?

Just goofing around this afternoon and came across the Gregor Hilden Band.  It was definitely a Kodak moment.  This guy's tone is through the roof playing his vintage Goldtop LP - thought I'd died and gone to heaven listenin' to this.  Not too many dudes give my spine a workout like this cat did.  Gregor leans a little to the jazz side with his West Coast blues.  I'd love to see him jam with Henrik.
Here's something from a dvd performance - I hope Andre's got this on cd!

Re: Another German Genius?

Yes I know Gregor Hilden but don't have this on Cd. Can look for it in Germany. I have the Cd The Vineyard Sessions from Hilden- Arndt and Gross. Three excellent German bluesguitarists. Brilliant album.
Gregor Hilden-Richie Arndt and Timo Gross.
It's acoustic and one of the best CD's I own!! They are brilliant on their own records as well.

Have a look for it, you won't be disappointed I'm sure!!!!!!!!

Re: Another German Genius?

Gotta say...I liked the song and the band overall, but I found the sax player much more involved and interesting.

Curby-I think it was you who turned me on to Hadden Sayers in a post a while back and have to tell you that I've been listening to him regularly since I got his 2 albums. Great stuff! Even got the chef at the lodge in Alaska hooked on him!

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Andre, I found The Vineyard Sessions and agree it's brilliant.  It's got such an intimate front porch groove going and also a nice mix of styles.  This is one of the best albums I've heard in awhile.  Thanks Andre!
Regarding Gregor's dvd: If you can find it and convert it to a cd for me I will repay you.  I just love that vid and it looks like it was a special night - the band was firing on all cylinders that night.

Guido, no way that sax player steals the show although I too was duly impressed.  Btw, I set your trout pic as the background on my phone.  Excellent!

Eva, it's gonna take awhile to digest all of your attachements.  I'll get back with you soon - that was awfully sweet of you to do it.  Thanks!

Dude! That's awesome about the phone trout! I have hundreds more. Pics that is. Canadian trout, Montana trout, Oregon, California & more Alaska trout. Pick your state! Oh yeah, forgot about the New Mexico trout too.

Shame on me, Curby, I´ve never heard about Gregor Hilden. Maybe he is too near.

Re: Another German Genius?

So far I'm looking into my fourth album purchase and I haven't even got to the Rory tribute with Henrik...yet!  Like I said last night the acoustic Vineyard Sessions is a special album, but there's another mind blower (no pun intended) by the name of Blue Hour.  This is an album meant for the bedroom and if you doubt me then check it out.  Smatter of fact this is the electric soul brother to VS.  Can't believe I'm saying this so soon, but this is the finest album I've heard this year.  Gregor enlists two American singers and his covers Al Green, Marvin and other Motown are flat out jaw dropping.

Couldn't find a song off BH on the fly, but found another.  That '59 LP looks like its lost alot of its finish, but no mistakin' that superior tone.

Re: Another German Genius?

Glad you enjoy them so much Curby.! No shame on you Guenter, you can't know all. You already know so much and that's really so.
Hope to see you again soon.

I've seen him twice playing with different bands and have a few CDs but to be honest Gregor got lost in that big pond of other bands and CDs. I have 4 CDs and I have no idea how they are. This year he played in my hometown and I had no idea and missed that gig cause it wasn't promoted. The sources I check in search of concerts don't mention him. So, I just subscribed his newsletter. Gregor seems to be a hidden German talent.

Maybe I have to hear Vineyard Sessions once again. I bought the album some time ago after a live gig of Timo Gross. Timo's live performance was very good with a very special acoustic set of the whole band in the crowd and maybe that is the reason that I was kind of disappointed of the album.

Put Gregor's bedroom CD on my shopping list.

Eva,

I went through all those vids and they were all pretty good.  Surprisingly the Rorymania one I had to cherry-pick due to Richie Arndt's singing.  I had to get "Laundromat" and "Rory" though for Henrik and GH's fierce guitar playing.
If someone were to ask who Gregor reminds me of I'd have to say a clean and sober Peter Green or maybe Robben Ford.  Both those guys have the same excellent tone and are riff masters.  I love muscular guitar playing as much as anybody, but I have a real weakness for the stuff Gregor, Peter and Robben play.  What makes Joe and SRV so special is they're accomplished with both styles.  A few years back I posted a thread about my five favorite guitarists of all time [(1) Jimi, (2) Duane, (3) Peter, (4) Stevie and (5) Joe Bonamassa] and it's no coincidence each possesses one or both qualities.
