Re: 2011 King of the Blues winner

Having not seen the other contestants performances I can only say on guitar faces alone he deserved the crown.  big_smile Seriously I liked his playing a lot.

Re: 2011 King of the Blues winner

My Word, That is just devastating playing ... In all the years i've seen these competions run i have NEVER seen anyone as talented as that.

Jonathon has indeed The Blues in his veins, love the feeling and the flow of his playing, surely he has a voice there somewhere and he could and should really go places

Impressive playing. The facial contortions leave me cold, but in a dimly lit club he'd tear the walls down.

Definitely a fine guitarist.

...why couldn't God have blessed me with a face like that!?  hmm  ....brilliant!  wink

Wow, you could watch that guy with the sound muted and still dig it, very cool indeed smile

Re: 2011 King of the Blues winner

Nice playing.  I didn't even realize the 2011 competition was even going on.

Re: 2011 King of the Blues winner

Totally agree, both on the talent shown in the playing, along with the facial contortions. Dark clubs will be awesome.

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

Re: 2011 King of the Blues winner

I should prawly explain a lil bit.  I think the guy could be great.  He's enthusiastic and dresses the part.  I have never loved the metal shred stuff. Just IMO, but that's not new for me.  I'm consistent.  wink   Here's my only real criticism cause he can play...his timing.  Gotta work with that metronome.

I hope he does well.  Gotta be a dream come true...

Re: 2011 King of the Blues winner

Personally...I'd like more Kossoffs and less shredtastic blues...
The tone is great...then it's just boom! Tons of notes...
Doesn't move me...

Cmon...the faces are just clownish...I know the feel, but every note and phrase?!

Re: 2011 King of the Blues winner

The cat can play, for sure.  cool

The facial expressions don't bother me in the slightest.  What I DID find disconcerting in the video though, was that he seemed to immediately want to pull out EVERY lick and phrase in his trickbag and cram them into a couple of minutes.  Tough call though, I mean, he had just WON the KING of the Blues competition and had to do a showcase performance to justify the win, so it would have been difficult to hold back some.

I've heard several people on various forums critique his timing, but to me, I personally like a little bit of give and take on the timing of phrasing.  It must be because I have a totally rubbish sense of timing in my own playing!!  tongue

No doubts at all that Boogie can play the Blues, and I wish him every success and hope that this KOTB win will see him realise a lot of his guitar playing goals...
