more extraordinary guitar from Jeff Healey, lord I wish he were still alive. OK, it's not really equal without a vocal, but Jeff's guitar just destroys mr Page's effort imo. I had forgotten that this is on that same CD, if you don't have it that's why you need it. Also check out his cover of Jimi's Freedom, very nice.

Wow, cannot agree on Gimme Shelter by the Stones being surpassed! yikes  My opinion is Grand Funk's version is pathetic-let me emphasize for friendliness' sake, in my opinion, and comparatively speaking, if only for me.  On the other hand, Inside Looking Out....Grand Funk's version, in my opinion and for me, comparatively speaking, if only (apparently not) for me, makes the Animals' look tame!  big_smile

Mark Farner still can "Nail" all of his written & cover songs that Grand Funk performed in the past....His energy is incredible-like the energizer rabbit.
His fame & fortune has not gone to his head & is a super cool guy to talk to when he has the time... It's too bad Don and Mel don't get along with him because they could incredible today.....but Mark does not need them.

Today's Stones to me (even though they are Icons) are just hanging on to their fame/glory...I was not impressed the last time I saw them...( Pearl Jam blew them off the stage.... )

I've never heard the original "Sloe Gin", but it was the song that got me into Joe's music...so his version is very special to me and still up there in my favourite 3 Joe songs. I can't imagine a better version exists!

Wishbone Ash - "Motherless Child" ... Andy Powell's vocal is beautiful.

Tempest - "Paperback Writer"...I love this version!!

Paul Rodgers covering anything - he could sing nursery rhymes and I'd still listen to that voice! However, one of my favourites of his covers is "Standin' Around Crying" from his A Tribute to Muddy Waters album.

Also love Devil's Creek's version of the James Taylor song "Fire & Rain".

I have to agree with you about today's version of the Stones milking their past glory.  They shoul've retired 20 years ago when the well finally went dry.  Their legacy however (for me) has groan enormously.  Revisiting their earlier output has got me rethinking where they stand in rock history. Right now I'd say they've past the Beatles and all the other pretenders to the throne.  Their biggest mistake was letting Mick Taylor go and though I like Ronnie Wood alot I don't think his or Brian Jones' playing touches Mick's.
