Topic: Hardly StrictlyBluegrass

It's that time of year again, almost, for the 10th annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass gig in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Never been to this due to such a conflict of too many things that happen on this weekend around the Bay Area. the dates this year are Fri. Sept. 30th, Sat. Oct. 1st, & Sun. Oct. 2nd. Check out this years lineup:

http://www.strictlybluegrass.com/

There's a little something in there for everybody, thus the name, Hardly Strictly. The game plan is to sort thru the acts and decide who you want to see and create your own schedule. The days, times, & stages each performer is on will be posted soon. Emmylou is a priority! How the promoter puts this many acts with star quality names together for free is amazing. Just another reason to live by "My city by the bay".

                                                                                                                 J Dawg

Re: Hardly StrictlyBluegrass

That would be fun to attend.  Interesting lineup of bluegrass, as well as other music genre, performers, including Earl Skruggs, Charlie Musslewhite, Steve Earle,Merle Haggerd, Guy Clark, Dr. John, Bela Fleck, Chris Isaak, Robert Plant and Buckethead

I don't listen to alot of bluegrass, but i do have one of my presets on sirius set to the bluegrass channel so I give it an occasional listen...when I'm in the mood.

One thing is for certain wether you enjoy the twang and corny lyrics of bluegrass music or not, the talent of the musicians is incredibly high.

I think more than a few of these are showing up in San Diego's Little Italy this month as Street Fair (something maybe as a replacement or remnaming for what was once San Diego Street Scene going back to the 1980's?)...also for free! Seen most of them already, but obvious talent always a draw /redraw for moi...
I better investigate both further...

Re: Hardly StrictlyBluegrass

Look elsewhere than Little Italy. Unless a radical change occurs, the tradition is for Latin Dancing to prevail lately. Not that bad, but a far cry from the others. This weekend is the big stickball tournament.

All I could think about looking at that list was how lucky Dawg is living in that city by the bay.  Is my jealousy showing????

I've been to San Fran four times and The Big Easy more than that and well know their attraction.  I'll be in New Orleans for a golf tournament in December and am looking forward to it.  Btw, that town you live in ain't too shabby either.  cool

As Rocket mentioned I was trying to fend off a cold by layin' low and missed out....AGAIN! My girlfriend made it with another girlfriend on Friday and caught Chris Isaak & Robert Plant much to their enjoyment. However Karen's over all take on it was, been there, done that, don't need to do it again. Reports on the size of the crowd varied between 600 to 800,000 for 3 days depending on who reported it. I was considering going since a Bonabuddy lives 3 blocks from the park and offered us parking in her driveway, a dream situation. Gotta call from Bluezman from there on Sat. while they were groovin' on Buckethead. Feelin' better today after a steady diet of football & playoff baseball from the couch all weekend. BTW Curby, every weekend is a smorgasbord of music around the Bay Area, decisions, decisions, decisions.
