Topic: Eric Johnson last night at Atlanta Variety Playhouse

Caught Eric last night and seeing this guy is indeed a musical education.
I saw him last year on the Experience Hendrix tour but this was much better.
He did two sets.  He opened up his first set with acoustic material by himself and it was a great warmup for his electric sets.
I realize he is a little too technical for some peoples taste.  He bridges gaps between pop rock, blues, country, fusion and jazz.  But I totally got it.
The icing on the cake was his encore which was Hendrix Are You Experienced.  This sent me home a very happy camper.
I would honestly say of the guitar players I have seen this year, Eric is definitely one of the best.
Personable from the stage.  Announces names of songs but keeps stage chatter to a minimum.
A true professional in a class by himself.

I think Eric is GREAT... I've seen him twice, both at Hendrix shows. I'd love to see him on his own, playing his own music -- your description sounds PERFECT -- but he doesn't seem to come near central PA. I've checked his tour schedule a few times, but no luck.

He was in Sellersville, PA this past weekend, but that's near Philly -- 2 hours away on a work night -- and we had other plans. Nothing in Baltimore (1 hour) or closer (Harrisburg? Hershey?). Oh well. Maybe next year.

Saw him last night in Jackson, MS. PHENOMENAL show. His guitar tone was stunning. It was amazing to observe his complete mastery of the guitar.

I first heard about Eric when he hooked up with Satriani's G3 with Vai. Been a fan ever since. Yet to see the man live ... as yet!
