Topic: Michael Schenker's Tone

...is superb.
Great to see him supporting BCC on his best form for many years.

His setup is gobsmackingly simple...the V's into all stock Boss pedals (delay, chorus, reverb and another I think)...a wah (half on for that particular tone - correct me if I'm wrong - didn't he also use two in the past?)

Running into a JCM800 usually - also I think there was a DSL 50w there in white? No utterly crazy volumes (starting to think I'm missing something other than his fingers here...)
No big budget needed..right, kids?

The tone was fantastic, especially at cutting through the band whilst being smooth and thick. Couldn't fault that...nor his playing of course.

I am definitely buying his new album - those two new songs he played were right up there as highlights of the set.

Nice one, Michael.

Re: Michael Schenker's Tone

Dave, the white Marshall is actually an old JCM 800 2205. Marshall built new cabinets for them, covered in white.  He actually has two of them, along with four white cabinets. He only uses one head, and one bottom cabinet. The others are spares.

He only uses the Crybaby(Dimebag model), for an actual wah effect these days. I have heard people say that he used to use two, back in the day, but that's never been confirmed. One was supposedly to use as a wah, and the other had the gear disengaged, so it was set to the sweet spot all the time. As a matter of fact, HE doesn't even remember if he did!  lol

He uses two Boss Chorus pedals, and two Boss delays. They doubles started off as just being spares, but he ended up setting them differently, and uses them all. There's also a Boss TU-2 tuner.

Finally, there's a Boss volume pedal. It's set up so he can adjust his  stage monitor volume, not the Marshalls.

Oh, and he also uses Ernie Ball, or D'Angelico, strings (Gauge is 9-42. More proof, that fat tone CAN come from skinny strings!  smile ). Not sure if he prefers one over the other, but I've seen him use both. I doubt if he really cares, since he's not a gearhead, at all.

He doesn't even know what pickups are in his main guitar; he just knows that Dean makes him something, and if he likes it, he uses it. I think it's safe to assume, that they are the Dimarzio Schenker pickups. Of course, all of his newer Deans have Dean Lights Out MS Signature pickups, in them.

I also know all of his settings, if you'd like to know that, too. Yes, I'm really THAT sick! lol

That's all there is, to his setup.

Your resident Schenker freak,
John

Read all about it, here:

One correction, though. Slash did not end up being able to play on it, due to scheduling conflicts. Someone just got a little trigger happy, with the press release.

Re: Michael Schenker's Tone

Yeah totally agree his tone and playing was really impressive at High Voltage glad to see him back on form after his personal troubles, Joe's tone was killer!!!

Re: Michael Schenker's Tone

Does anyone know if Joe and Michael did any jams together at any of these shows?  I feel sure they probably would have if it had been on Joe's own band's tour.  I did not know if BCC ever had any other musicians play with them.  I have searched youtube some but could not find anything with Joe and Michael playing together.
